Lublin to build resilient new fire HQ

Lublin will build a new fire station on a former stadium site. The HQ will double as a shelter and coordination centre.

Lublin will build a new headquarters for its provincial fire service on a former stadium site.

The new fire station will also serve as a shelter for staff during serious threats.

Why the move matters

The current command sits on Strażakowa Street and dates back decades.

Consequently, it no longer meets modern operational needs.

Moreover, the site offers no room for expansion.

Therefore the provincial command decided to relocate to the former stadium at Kresowa Street.

The plot belongs to the State Treasury (Skarb Państwa), and the provincial fire command already holds permanent management (trwały zarząd).

New fire station: design and resilience

The documentation calls for a 2,100 square metre main building.

In addition, a 500 square metre equipment storage building will sit nearby.

Consequently, the complex will host an integrated rescue coordination centre.

Moreover, designers must provide sheltering functions for staff in extreme scenarios.

The plan lists protection against blast overpressure, explosions, and debris collapse.

Therefore the building will meet the highest resilience standards.

Daily operations and public safety

The project also covers everyday needs for firefighters and civilian staff.

For example, plans include social facilities, conference rooms, and training spaces.

In addition, the site will feature garages for vehicles, repair bays, and a washing area.

Moreover, the command wants a gym and a multifunctional sports field to maintain physical fitness.

The designers must also mark manoeuvre yards and ensure direct access to public roads.

Furthermore, the scheme foresees visitor parking and a secured internal lot with a barrier.

Finally, planners will add lighting, seating, a flagpole, and greenery around the site.

Timeline and procurement

The fire service published a tender for project documentation this week.

Moreover, it expects key elements within a month of signing the agreement.

The command wants the full design by November, and some parts by August.

Therefore officials can launch the construction contract soon after.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: The site sits on state land managed by the provincial command (trwały zarząd). Civil defence features mean the building must protect staff during wartime or large attacks. As an expat, note that many Polish public services use acronyms. For example, PESEL is your national ID number, ZUS runs social security, NFZ runs public health insurance, and mandat means a fine. You will not need those documents to visit, but local staff will hold them for official business.
