Students Compete to Promote Water Conservation

Over 400 students in Podkarpackie created e-leaflets on water conservation. Winners received vouchers and their work will be shared regionally.

The regional competition “Woda – każda kropla ma znaczenie” showcased student projects on water conservation. Moreover, organisers received 429 entries from primary schools across Podkarpackie, and they held a gala to award the best works.

Water conservation in Podkarpackie schools

The contest targeted pupils in grades V to VIII. It asked students to design A3 e-leaflets with slogans, simple facts, and daily tips to save water. Consequently, the brief pushed young people to combine creativity and practical advice. In addition, the competition aimed to spark local action and social awareness. The regional Department of Environmental Protection organised the event. Therefore, local government took a hands-on role in environmental education.

Wiktoria Krupa from Wola Dębowiecka won first prize. Moreover, she received a voucher worth 1200 zł. The second and third prizes went to Marcelina Mazur and Marlena Mazur. They received vouchers worth 1100 zł and 1000 zł respectively. In addition, each winner’s class received 1500 zł for shared school activities. The jury also awarded seven special mentions. They gave small vouchers of 300 and 400 zł to those students.

Officials praised the students for thoughtful messages and clear designs. Katarzyna Ruszała from Stowarzyszenie EKOSKOP noted that choosing winners proved difficult. Consequently, the jury debated for many hours. In addition, organisers hope to use the best e-leaflets in schools and municipal campaigns. Therefore, local councils may share the designs with residents.

At the gala, Mirosław Ruszała gave a short talk about water resources in Poland and worldwide. Furthermore, speakers stressed that Podkarpackie faces seasonal pressure on water supplies. However, schools can influence household habits. For example, students suggested fixing leaks, using water-saving taps, and mindful watering of gardens. These ideas remain practical for families and renters alike.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: The contest came from the regional Marshal’s Office (Urząd Marszałkowski), which funds local education projects. In Poland prize vouchers (bony upominkowe) act like gift cards. Local campaigns often involve schools, so expect community events if you live in a small town. Also, practical Polish terms: PESEL refers to the national ID number, ZUS is the social insurance office, and NFZ runs public health insurance. These institutions rarely affect school contests, but they matter for wider civic life.

For expats, the competition shows how communities teach conservation. Moreover, it highlights email and digital formats for outreach. Therefore, if you join a local parent group, expect schools to share materials digitally. Furthermore, local governments sometimes translate such guides for diverse communities.

Officials plan to distribute the top e-leaflets across Podkarpackie. Consequently, residents will see student-made materials in schools and local offices. The initiative aims to change everyday practices. In addition, it gives students real influence on policy messages and local behaviour.
