Zimbabwean Charged After Lublin Bar Attack

Zimbabwean charged in Lublin after allegedly hitting a man with a glass; victim needed stitches and spinal care.

A Zimbabwean man faces charges after a violent bar incident in Lublin late on Sunday night. Zimbabwean charged in Lublin after he allegedly struck another patron with a glass, leaving the victim bleeding and later needing stitches.

Zimbabwean charged in Lublin

The clash happened after 2 a.m. near the pedestrian mall in central Lublin. Consequently, staff and security intervened quickly. Moreover, a witness said the two men first argued at the bar. However, the conflict escalated when the visitor pushed the other man. In addition, the visitor returned and hit the man with a drinking glass. Therefore, the glass hit the back of the victim’s head, not the face or throat. As a result, the injured man bled heavily and needed urgent medical help.

Police response and charges

Police arrived and the bar security detained the alleged attacker. Moreover, officers found the man deeply intoxicated. He had over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his blood. Consequently, the police took him to the izba wytrzeźwień, the sobering-up room. After he sobered, the officers questioned him. They then charged him with causing light bodily harm, an offence that can carry up to two years in prison. However, investigators released him pending trial. This outcome reflects his long-term residence and employment in Poland, and his lack of a criminal record. In addition, local media reported he works as a DJ and traveled from Warsaw for the Africa Day Festival.

Injury and medical care

The injured man, aged 40, went to hospital. Doctors stitched a large wound and documented spinal cord injuries. Therefore, the case may require follow-up treatment. In Poland, ambulance crews operate under the NFZ system, the National Health Fund, for insured patients. Consequently, expats with private insurance or EHIC may access care differently. Moreover, keep your registration and health coverage details ready in emergencies.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you need help after an assault in Poland, call 112 immediately. Keep documentation of injuries and hospital reports. Moreover, file a complaint at the local police station and get a copy. If you live here, you may have a PESEL number, which acts as a national ID. In addition, the Polish social system uses ZUS for social security and NFZ for public health care. Therefore, carry proof of insurance, or use private cover if you lack NFZ eligibility. Finally, hire an English-speaking lawyer early, and request an interpreter during police interviews if needed.

Expats should also note that businesses often keep CCTV footage. Consequently, footage can help charges and civil claims. Moreover, bar security can detain suspects, but staff must hand them to police quickly. Therefore, if you face legal or medical issues, contact your embassy or consulate for advice.
