Where will weddings be held? Councilman asks

Councilman Wcisło asks where the civil registry office will relocate during Trybunał Koronny works.

City councilor Michał Wcisło pressed the city for details on the civil registry office after the planned renovation of the historic Trybunał Koronny. However, residents and couples now ask where wedding ceremonies will take place during the works.

Background and timeline of the Trybunał Koronny project

The city says it holds full project documentation and a building permit. Moreover, officials state the start depends on external funds. Consequently, the municipality hopes to begin construction in late 2026. In addition, the project should finish by 2029. The total budget stands at about 36 million PLN. However, the city expects over 22.6 million PLN from EU sources.

civil registry office: relocation questions and logistics

Wcisło returned to the topic with a new interpellation. Therefore, he asked whether the city chose a new location for the office. He also wants to know where civil wedding ceremonies will occur. Moreover, the councilor asked if the city analyzed temporary relocation options. He asked for estimated moving costs and fitting expenses. In addition, he sought the renovation schedule down to stages and deadlines.

Why this matters for residents and visitors

The registry handles vital services every day. For example, the civil registry issues birth, marriage, and death records. Moreover, it registers names and personal data like PESEL numbers. (PESEL is the national ID number for residents.) In addition, people need reliable access to these services. Therefore, any disruption affects families and planners. Consequently, weddings, legal paperwork, and vital records could face delays.

Artworks, heritage and the city’s image

The councilor also asked about protecting movable heritage inside the building. The deputy mayor, Tomasz Fulara, previously said the city began securing movable assets. Moreover, he included both USC equipment and artworks in those efforts. Therefore, officials claim they will protect historical pieces before works begin. In addition, the revived building will serve cultural functions after renovation. Consequently, the Stare Miasto will regain an important cultural venue.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you plan a civil wedding in Poland, remember different rules than religious weddings apply. You must file paperwork at the local civil registry, present identity documents, and declare legal capacity to marry. In addition, foreign residents sometimes need certified translations, apostilles, or a certificate of no impediment. For routine living, know basic Polish institutions: ZUS handles pensions and social security (Zakład Ubezpieczeń Społecznych), NFZ manages public health insurance (Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia), and PESEL is the national ID number used for many services. Therefore, contact your local registry early to confirm documents and book ceremonial dates.

The councilor stressed the public interest in ensuring continuity. Moreover, he noted the issue carries social and image value for Lublin. Therefore, city officials face pressure to pick a suitable temporary site. However, they also must secure funding and preserve heritage pieces.
