Roadworks on Fabryczna and Przemysłowa Begin
Fabryczna and Przemysłowa enter reconstruction, causing traffic delays and changes near Chełm’s industrial zone.
Fabryczna and Przemysłowa enter reconstruction from Wednesday, May 13, and drivers should expect delays. Consequently, local authorities introduced a temporary traffic plan for the works.
What drivers will face
The city will start with Przemysłowa as the priority road. However, crews will keep the road open to vehicles. Heavy machinery and construction teams will work close to traffic. Therefore, drivers will experience slower travel and occasional lane narrowing. In some spots the city will run alternating traffic with a temporary light or a flagger. Consequently, peak hours may bring longer queues and extra travel time.
Funding, contractor and schedule
The municipality secured over 20.27 million zł from the Governmental Road Development Fund. In addition, the city awarded the contract to Pref-Bet from Pawłów for about 19.7 million zł gross. Originally, officials planned to finish by July this year. However, the winter weather and supervision issues delayed the start. Now the works enter the main phase and the contract allows ten months for completion. Therefore, the deadline stands at 15 July 2026 at the latest. Consequently, the first weeks will determine the project tempo and traffic handling.
Scope beyond new asphalt
This project covers more than a simple resurfacing. The city will rebuild 2,910 metres of road and upgrade 2,294 metres of sidewalks. In addition, workers will install 2,864 metres of dedicated cycle path. The plan also includes rainwater drainage, new street lighting, and special lights at pedestrian crossings. Moreover, contractors will build new bus stops and related infrastructure. Therefore, the upgrades should improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and shift workers driving to plants.
Works on Fabryczna and Przemysłowa and local economy
Fabryczna and Przemysłowa serve Chełm’s largest industrial area. Consequently, they handle heavy trucks, commuter buses and delivery traffic. The roads connect to a cement plant, multiple factories and investment zones. Therefore, better roads aim to ease access for employees and freight. Moreover, the improved infrastructure may attract new investors and support local jobs. Consequently, short-term disruption could yield long-term economic benefits.
