Traffic snags on Nadbystrzycka as Janowska works start
Nadbystrzycka roadworks will bring lane closures and alternating traffic from May 16 and heavier disruptions from May 18. Plan detours and expect bus delays.
Road crews move into a new phase on Janowska this week. Consequently, the Nadbystrzycka roadworks will affect drivers and public transport from May 16 and intensify from May 18.
What motorists and passengers should expect
On Saturday, May 16 crews will mill the road surface on Nadbystrzycka. Therefore drivers should expect short traffic stops, alternating traffic and local lane narrowings. Moreover, from Monday, May 18 the contractor will close one lane on the entire section under modernisation. As a result, traffic in both directions will alternate on the remaining lane. Consequently, the city asks motorists to use alternative routes. In addition, follow temporary signs and drive slowly near work zones.
Nadbystrzycka roadworks: timeline and impact
The reconstruction covers the full length of Janowska from the railway viaduct to Żeglarska. Furthermore, the project includes the Nadbystrzycka fragment from the Jana Pawła II junction to the viaduct. Altogether, the works cover almost 3.8 kilometres of road. The contractor will install a new road surface and repair sidewalks. In addition, crews will rebuild bus bays and add lighting at pedestrian crossings. The city expects the project to finish by 4 August 2026. Moreover, the contract value exceeds 7.3 million zł. The firm Przedsiębiorstwo Robót Drogowych Lubartów S.A. leads the works. The Municipal Roads and Transport Authority, known locally as Zarząd Dróg i Transportu Miejskiego, coordinates traffic measures. Monika Fisz, the authority spokeswoman, urges drivers to choose detours and obey signage.
Why this matters to expats
Bus users should note that line 8 will not detour, yet it may run late. Therefore commuters who rely on punctual buses should leave earlier. Moreover, delays may affect trips to offices and clinics. For example, visits to ZUS (the social security institution) or NFZ (the public health insurer) might take longer. In addition, a detour can alter taxi and rideshare times. Consequently, plan meetings and appointments with buffer time. Furthermore, use live transit apps like Jakdojade or Google Maps for real-time updates and lane closures. Finally, obey traffic police and do not stop in work zones, as police may issue a fine (a “mandat” is a fine issued by police in Poland).
