Pulawy school to get amphitheatre and greener grounds

Pulawy Czartoryski amphitheatre project wins EU and national funds to add green spaces, accessibility upgrades and a public stage at I Liceum.

The historic I Liceum in Puławy will gain more green space and a small on-site stage. The Pulawy Czartoryski amphitheatre project secured EU and state funds and will reshape the school’s grounds.

Funding, ownership and recent context

Local authorities awarded the project nearly 4 million zł from EU funds. Moreover, the government added more than 460,000 zł from the national budget. The County of Puławy owns I Liceum and will manage the works. In addition, the school saw a major update less than a year ago. Consequently, the previous investment added new fencing, drainage, park lamps and plantings. That earlier work cost about 1.6 million zł. Therefore, this new phase builds on recent improvements to create fuller public value.

Pulawy Czartoryski amphitheatre: plans and features

The plan places a small amphitheatre behind the school library. Moreover, designers will add a permanent covered stage and terraced seating. New pathways and road layouts will improve circulation. In addition, hard-surfaced squares will receive fresh finishes. The project will plant flower meadows and rain gardens. Consequently, those gardens will increase local rainwater retention. Therefore, the scheme aims for both beauty and resilience.

Community benefits, accessibility and public use

The county stresses that the space will stay open to everyone. Moreover, officials say residents can use the area for meetings and cultural events. The works will remove unnecessary barriers and improve access for people with disabilities. In addition, ramps and smoother paths will help wheelchair users and parents with strollers. However, organised events may still need local permits. Consequently, community groups should check with the county for booking rules. Therefore, the amphitheatre may become a new hub for neighbourhood life.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: The project sits under the county (powiat) government, which owns many schools in Poland. In practical terms, EU grants often cover big costs, while national co-financing fills gaps. For expats, note that public spaces in Poland are usually free to enter but require permits for organised events. In addition, you may encounter Polish administrative terms: PESEL is your national ID number, ZUS runs social insurance (like pensions and workplace contributions), and NFZ is the national health fund (it manages public healthcare). Therefore, contact the Powiat Puławski office to ask about bookings, accessibility, and local culture programmes.
