Lubartów cycling festival kicks off a packed June program in this small Lublin-region town. Moreover, the month pairs traditional Kapucynalia celebrations with one of Poland’s biggest bike rides.
Family fun and charity at Kapucynalia
On Saturday, June 20, the Franciscan-capuchin monastery opens its gardens. Consequently, locals will enjoy a family picnic, games and a 10 km run called “Peace and Good”. In addition, organisers will collect donations for Olivia, a child with epilepsy. The festival starts at 14:00. Moreover, activities include inflatable play areas, paintball, face-painting and dog therapy. Therefore, the program also features a cake fair, a treasure-hunt game and first-aid training. At 16:00 the run begins on Lubelska Street. In addition, the community will present the “Pax et Bonum” award during the event.
Lubartów cycling festival: World Bicycle Day arrives
Sunday, June 28, brings the XXXII Święto Roweru and global branding under United Nations World Bicycle Day. In addition, organisers expect thousands of riders this year. Last year 7,725 people joined, including guests from France and Australia. Moreover, the event now uses light blue shirts that echo UN colours. The organisers hope Lubartów will host central UN commemorations one day. However, this year they focus on sport rather than music.
Races, routes and logistics
The programme offers eight routes that suit different abilities. For example, the shortest route spans 15 km. Conversely, the longest route covers 62 km and passes through many villages. Moreover, the program includes a vintage bicycle exhibition at the Market Square. In addition, participants can enter the Cyklofrajda race in the city park earlier on June 27. Furthermore, organisers stage a triathlon that combines running, kayaking on the Wieprz river and cycling. Registration already runs online at the event website. Therefore, you should sign up early to secure a place and a race shirt.
Participants will find basic services on site. For instance, the organisers will serve military-style grochówka soup. In addition, they will distribute certificates and commemorative shirts. Moreover, sponsors will award 20 bikes and trophies to top mileage riders. However, unlike past editions, the programme includes no headline musical concerts.
Community organisers emphasise sport and inclusivity. Consequently, they hope to grow the event widely. In addition, they expect higher turnout if weather stays good.
