Matura 2026 results: Final figures show 87% pass rate after August retakes. Breakdown by school type and subjects, with advice for expats.

Matura 2026 results show that 87 percent of Poland’s school graduates obtained the secondary school leaving certificate after August retakes. The Central Examination Commission (CKE) released final figures covering both the main and supplementary sessions.

Matura 2026 results: national overview

In total, 322,859 graduates sat all compulsory written exams in the main and additional sessions. Then in August, 33,979 candidates took corrective exams. Therefore the final pass rate climbed from 81.1 percent to 87 percent.

Graduates from general high schools performed best. Their pass rate reached 90.7 percent. However, technical school graduates scored lower. Their rate increased to 79.8 percent after retakes.

Subjects and school type breakdown

The written Polish exam cleared 95.3 percent of candidates. In general high schools the rate was 96.6 percent. In technical schools the rate was 92.9 percent.

Mathematics remained harder than Polish. The basic level math exam passed by 88.9 percent overall. For general high schools the pass rate was 91.7 percent. For technical schools it was 83.5 percent.

English was the most chosen foreign language. The written English exam passed 95.5 percent of students. In general high schools the rate reached 97.1 percent. In technical schools it was 92.5 percent.

Compared with last year, the final national pass rate rose slightly. Last September the CKE reported an 86.1 percent final pass rate. Consequently, this year’s outcome shows stability over time.

Why the results matter for students and expats

CKE director Robert Zakrzewski said the exam remains stable across years. Therefore scores stay comparable between cohorts. This matters when universities use matura scores in admissions.

Students must pass three compulsory written basic exams. These include Polish, mathematics, and a modern foreign language. In addition, they must take two oral exams. Every candidate must also sit at least one extended written exam.

To obtain the certificate, candidates need at least 30 percent on each compulsory written basic exam. They also need 30 percent on oral parts. Moreover, only candidates who failed one exam could retake it in August. Those who failed more than one had to wait a year.
