Wisłostrada resurfacing causes weekend disruptions
Wisłostrada resurfacing starts Friday night, closing one carriageway until Monday morning and forcing lane shifts and detours.
Wisłostrada resurfacing starts Friday night, causing lane shifts and local closures. The city will close the northbound carriageway from the tunnel to Grodzka, and drivers will use the opposite carriageway.
Wisłostrada resurfacing: Traffic changes
Workers will start at 22:00 on Friday, 4 September. Consequently, crews expect to finish by 05:00 on Monday, 7 September. The road authority, Zarząd Dróg Miejskich, manages the schedule. Moreover, the authority already repaved the lanes heading toward Mokotów. However, this weekend crews will lay new asphalt on the lanes toward Żoliborz from the tunnel to Grodzka.
What drivers should expect
Drivers will shift to the opposite carriageway for the works. Consequently, the city will provide two lanes toward Żoliborz. Meanwhile, traffic toward Mokotów will keep one lane. From the tunnel drivers will exit on two lanes. Then both lanes will move to the adjacent carriageway near Karowa. Furthermore, drivers cannot use a turnaround at Grodzka during the works. In addition, Karowa turning rules stay the same. Therefore drivers will still turn left from Karowa onto Wisłostrada in two lanes, and one lane will turn right.
Recommended detours and public transport
The city suggests drivers use the Łazienkowski or Poniatowski bridges. Then follow Wał Miedzeszyński, Wybrzeże Szczecińskie and Wybrzeże Helskie toward Most Gdański. Alternatively, take Sanguszki, Konwiktorska, Muranowska, Andersa and Marszałkowska to Aleje Jerozolimskie. Then descend from the Poniatowski viaduct to rejoin Wisłostrada. Bus line 185 will keep its route. Therefore buses will stop at every scheduled stop.
Project context and what comes next
The city repaves Wisłostrada in stages to limit disruption. Moreover, crews will return later to resurface left lanes and lay paving stones near the curbs. As a result, drivers should expect further weekend work in the coming weeks. Furthermore, the staged approach aims to keep cross-river links open. However, drivers should plan extra travel time while works continue.
