Vojtaz convicted: sentence and restrictions
The Lublin court sentenced Wojciech K. to one year in prison. However, the court suspended the sentence for three years. Consequently, he will serve the term only if he breaches probation. Moreover, the judge ordered court supervision by a probation officer (dozór kuratora). In addition, the court banned him from any contact with the victim for three years. The ruling also forbids him from coming closer than 300 metres to her. Therefore, he must pay 15,000 zł in compensation (zadośćuczynienie) to the victim.
What prosecutors said and how the case unfolded
The accused admitted guilt during the first hearing on September 2. Consequently, the defence asked the court to issue a guilty verdict. The prosecutor accepted that proposal. Therefore, the court did not hear witnesses or continue evidence gathering. The alleged conduct dates from 2014 when the girl was 13. Moreover, investigators say the man sent explicit photos and sexual videos via Snapchat and Messenger. In addition, the pair initially met in online Minecraft groups where they made dubbing and other content. The case surfaced after someone posted a video online three years ago. Meanwhile, the victim confirmed the contacts and told police the experience caused trauma. She required psychological help, the prosecutors said.
Expert opinions and courtroom privacy
Psychiatric and sexology experts examined the defendant. They found no mental illness or intellectual disability. However, they noted personality structure issues and social-emotional deficits. In addition, experts concluded he was sane at the time and could control his behaviour. The court held the hearing behind closed doors (wyłączenie jawności) at the parties’ request. The defence argued the case involved intimate matters and old events. Also, lawyers noted the accused was 19 at the time of the events.
