Veolia plans summer works; hot water halted in hundreds of flats

Veolia warns of a hot water outage in Warsaw affecting nearly 400 buildings in Mokotów, Ursus and Ochota as summer upgrades begin.

Veolia will cut hot water to almost 400 buildings as it modernises central pipes this summer. Consequently, a hot water outage in Warsaw will hit residents in Mokotów, Ursus and Ochota while crews work on the network.

Which districts and how long will the disruption last?

Mokotów faces the largest interruption. Works next to ul. Woronicza 32 start on Wednesday at 16:00. Therefore Veolia will suspend hot water supply until Saturday morning, August 1. Consequently 191 buildings will feel the outage during those days. Moreover crews will replace a 600 mm heating main to lower future failure risk.

In addition, teams will work near Posag 7 Panien in Ursus. Works begin the same Wednesday and should finish on Friday, July 31 by 20:00. Therefore 157 buildings will lose hot water temporarily. However the company says this activity is preventive and aims to avoid winter breakdowns.

Finally, Ochota will see brief works in August. Crews will remodel a heating chamber near ul. Nowogrodzka 68 from August 10 to 13. Consequently 34 buildings will face a short interruption. Moreover Veolia published a full list of affected addresses online and expects housing bodies to inform residents in advance.

Warsaw runs nearly 1,900 kilometres of heating network. Therefore the system ranks among the largest in the European Union. Moreover Veolia spends about 100 million PLN yearly on upgrades. Consequently the firm reports about a 40 percent fall in outages in recent years. In addition more than half the network now uses pre-insulated pipes to save heat and boost reliability.
