An urgent blood donation appeal seeks donors for Michał Damętka after a serious road crash in Roguszyn. Firefighters said the injured man is the brother of one of their volunteers. They asked donors to visit a blood donation point and name the patient before donating.

Urgent blood donation: details of the crash

The crash happened on Friday, 16 October on provincial road no. 637 in Roguszyn, gmina Korytnica. Local police said a 40-year-old Volkswagen driver hit three teenage cyclists. The boys rode in the same direction as the car. Police reported the driver was sober after a breath test.

Emergency teams airlifted the most seriously injured boy to hospital by Lotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe. He is a 15-year-old. A 16-year-old suffered a broken leg. Early reports said the third teenager escaped major injuries. Later, the Węgrów County police noted two cyclists went to hospital. Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances.

How to help

Firefighters issued the appeal for blood in the name of Michał Damętka, brother of their volunteer Asia. They urged residents and any eligible donor to come forward. Organisers ask donors to report to a blood donation point and to give the patient details exactly as requested: “Michał Damętka – Dziecięcy Szpital Kliniczny im. Józefa Polikarpa Brudzińskiego w Warszawie.” Donor medical qualification determines eligibility. Therefore, confirm the rules for declaring a donation for a specific patient at your local donation centre before you go.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: In Poland hospitals regularly request directed donations for specific patients. You must pass a short medical questionnaire and screening before you donate. If you are a foreign national, bring an ID such as a passport. The national health system (NFZ) funds many treatments, but blood services run separately through regional blood centres. Also, note that PESEL is the Polish personal ID number used in many health records, yet donors often only need a photo ID. Always call or check the official blood donation point to confirm what documentation they want.

Firefighters also asked for wide sharing of the appeal to reach as many potential donors as possible. Blood and its components can save lives after severe trauma. Each donation could make a practical difference for Michał and others who need transfusion after accidents.

Poland Radar will update readers as authorities release more information about the crash and recovery. If you can donate, please follow the instructions shared by the organisers and the local blood service before visiting.
