Historic Deblin Station to Get PLN 20.4m Upgrade

PKP will begin the Deblin railway station renovation, a PLN20.4m project to restore the historic Dęblin station and add modern passenger facilities.

Polish State Railways (PKP) signed a contract to start the Deblin railway station renovation, a major restoration worth about PLN 20.4 million.

Consequently, the historic station will get modern passenger areas, accessibility upgrades, and an energy retrofit by early 2028.

Deblin railway station renovation: Why it matters

Dęblin has served as a regional rail hub since the 19th century. Moreover, two private lines met here from 1877 and 1885. The station building carries scars of war and rebirth. However, the wooden station that stands today dates largely from 1924. In addition, the building entered the national register of monuments in 1994.

Historic significance and planned works

The project covers 920 square metres of usable space. Moreover, contractors will restore historic interiors that remain intact. They will remove reed-based plaster from the wooden facade. In addition, workers will dry and impregnate timber surfaces to protect them. Therefore, they will install new gypsum board cladding matched to the original palette. The masonry sections will receive specialist conservation paints. Furthermore, teams will replace damaged roof elements in the wooden section. They will rebuild the roof structure on the masonry side. Moreover, they will renew gutters, flashings, and chimney details to improve waterproofing.

Accessibility, energy and passenger experience

The ground floor will host a spacious main hall. Moreover, the hall will act as a representative entrance to the town. In addition, the project adds accessible toilets and a comfortable waiting room. They will remove architectural barriers for people with reduced mobility and parents with children. Furthermore, the team will install modern security and monitoring systems. They will also fit new electrical, heating, and telecom installations. Therefore, the project replaces electric heating with a central system fed by a heat pump. Moreover, the station will use LED lighting and a BMS to boost efficiency. Consequently, the renovation supports climate goals and cuts operating costs.

Funding, timeline and regional impact

EU funds and the Polish state will finance the works. Specifically, EU financing covers 85 percent of the bill. Moreover, the state budget provides the remaining 15 percent. Global Budownictwo will deliver the construction works. In addition, FBT prepared the design and conservation documentation. PKP expects to hand the renovated station to passengers by Q1 2028. Consequently, Dęblin should strengthen its role as a regional interchange. Furthermore, PKP plans complementary upgrades in Chełm and Łuków. Therefore, travellers can expect better regional rail links in the coming years.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you commute via Dęblin expect temporary works near platforms and altered timetables. In addition, check PKP schedules and apps like Koleo or Polregio. Moreover, buy tickets in advance to avoid queues. For residency and services note PESEL (national ID number), ZUS (social security office), and NFZ (public health insurer). Also, Polish fines (mandat) usually arrive by post. Finally, plan extra travel time during construction and ask staff for help if needed.
