Emergency crews arrived quickly and secured the scene. In addition, firefighters from OSP Ożarów Mazowiecki joined professionals from JRG 6 and JRG Błonie. They stabilised the truck and protected the damaged barrier. However, the rescue work will take hours. Therefore the exit from S8 to A2 towards Poznan remains closed.

What happened and who was involved

Police and firefighters report that the truck hit the road barriers at the A2/S2 split. The driver told officers he had fallen asleep at the wheel. As a result he lost control and struck the barriers. The impact tipped the vehicle onto its side. Fortunately, the driver suffered no injuries. Moreover, medics did not need to take him to hospital. Police continue to investigate the exact causes and circumstances. At this stage, officials have not released the sobriety test result.

Traffic impact and recommended detours

Traffic authorities advise drivers to follow signed diversions. Use National Road 92 (DK92) and the S2 route. Consequently, expect delays and heavier traffic on local roads. Moreover, freight and long-distance drivers should plan extra time. In addition, take alternate routes if possible to avoid the area near Konotopa. Recovery teams will also need time to clear the vehicle and fix the roadside barrier.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are involved in a road incident in Poland, call 112 for emergency help. Moreover, always exchange paperwork with the other party and get a police report for insurance. For expats, a Polish PESEL is a national ID number used for many official services (PESEL). In addition, the NFZ provides public healthcare coverage (National Health Fund), while ZUS handles social security and pensions (ZUS). Finally, a traffic fine is called a “mandat” in Polish, and insurers will often ask for a police record.

Local media and eyewitness portals first reported the crash. Meanwhile, municipal crews will repair the damaged safety barriers. Consequently, the physical repairs and vehicle removal may take several hours. Drivers should follow official updates on traffic apps and radio. Also, expect delays into the morning peak.

For expatriates, the main takeaways are practical. First, allow extra travel time when crossing Warsaw’s western ring roads. Moreover, resting well before long hauls can prevent fatigue-related crashes. Therefore commercial drivers should abide by rest rules and log breaks. In addition, keep emergency numbers and your insurer’s contact details handy.

Finally, authorities use such incidents to remind drivers about fatigue. Consequently, motorists should stop and rest if they feel drowsy. Moreover, short breaks can reduce risks and save lives.
