Three days of marches in Warsaw: transport impact

Expect traffic disruptions in Warsaw from May 15-17 due to marches, processions and rallies. Check routes and public transport updates.

Three days of marches, processions and public gatherings will affect central Warsaw from May 15 to May 17. The city warns of traffic disruptions in Warsaw and strong delays for drivers and transit users. Consequently, authorities advise travellers to plan ahead and use alternate routes.

What is happening and where

Police will secure multiple events from Friday through Sunday. Moreover, the heaviest impact will hit the city centre, the Royal Route, Aleje Ujazdowskie, Plac Konstytucji and Rondo Jazdy Polskiej. In addition, roads toward Ochota and Mokotów may slow down. Therefore, expect spot closures as processions move.

Traffic disruptions in Warsaw: Friday 15 May

On Friday a march will start at Rondo Dmowskiego and move toward the Sejm. Participants will stop at the Presidential Palace and the Ministry of Justice. The march will begin near the Rotunda PKO at 10:30. Subsequently, it will follow Marszałkowska, Świętokrzyska, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Nowy Świat, Plac Trzech Krzyży, Aleje Ujazdowskie and Matejki to Wiejska. The event may last until 16:30. Consequently, buses 116, 128, 175, 178, 180 and 503 will avoid the Royal Route by using Plac Piłsudskiego and Królewska. Furthermore, if Aleje Ujazdowskie close, other lines will divert via Piękna and Plac Konstytucji.

Saturday 16 May: processions and embassy gatherings

Saturday will have the most changes. From 15:00 to 18:00 the “Procession of Christ the King” will move from the Archcathedral to the Sanctuary of St. Andrew Bobola. The route will cross Plac Zamkowy, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Nowy Świat and Aleje Jerozolimskie. Moreover, a gathering near the US Embassy will start at 14:00 and march toward the Israeli Embassy. Consequently, the police will stage rolling closures. Therefore, many bus and tram lines will follow detours or shortened routes. Tram users should prepare for changes on lines 14, 15 and 36. In addition, services toward Ochota and Mokotów may end earlier than usual.

Sunday 17 May: Old Town procession and government rally

On Sunday a procession will move from the Archcathedral through Plac Zamkowy and Krakowskie Przedmieście to Plac Piłsudskiego. Afterwards, participants will continue along Królewska and Mazowiecka to Plac Powstańców Warszawy. Around 14:00 a separate rally will take place before the Prime Minister’s Office on Aleje Ujazdowskie. Consequently, buses 100, 116, 166, 180 and 503 will avoid a closed section near Plac Unii Lubelskiej.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live here temporarily check transit apps like Jakdojade or the ZTM website for live detours. Also carry ID when you travel. Note that PESEL (national ID number) applies mainly to residents. If police issue a fine, you will receive a “mandat” (a fine). Moreover, Poland runs healthcare via NFZ (the National Health Fund) and pensions via ZUS (social security). Therefore, keep emergency contacts, and contact your embassy if you face difficulties.

Drivers should allow extra time, choose ring roads, and avoid the central corridors. Moreover, ride-hailing and taxis may face delays. Therefore, commuters should work from home if possible. Police will close streets in stages to match the procession pace. Consequently, closures may last longer than planned, especially near key squares.

Finally, check official updates before travel. In addition, follow police instructions at roadblocks. Also, expect public transport rerouting to change as events progress.
