Teen Killed at Crosswalk in Mazovia

A 16-year-old died in a pedestrian crossing accident in Kałuszyn; prosecutors probe sequence and responsibility.

A tragic pedestrian crossing accident in Kałuszyn claimed a 16-year-old girl’s life on Monday evening. Prosecutors say a Skoda struck her first and a BMW then ran over her while she lay on the road.

What happened on national road 92

The crash happened before 18:00 on August 24 on Warsaw Street. This road forms part of national route 92. Police received the call at 17:58. A 46-year-old man drove the Skoda. He told investigators he drove about 50 km/h. Moreover, he said a truck drove in front of him. Consequently, he added the girl appeared from behind the truck’s trailer. He said he hit her on the right side. Then she landed on the hood and on the road. Therefore, he turned left to avoid running over her again.

A 28-year-old woman drove the BMW moments later. However, prosecutors say the BMW ran over the girl while she lay on the roadway. Emergency services arrived quickly. Sadly, medics pronounced the girl dead at the scene.

Reconstructing the pedestrian crossing accident

Prosecutors conduct a careful probe. They will use a traffic expert to rebuild the event. In addition, they will compare statements with physical evidence. Investigators will check skid marks and vehicle damage. Moreover, they will inspect video footage if any exists. Experts will assess whether either driver could have avoided the collision. Therefore, the expert opinion will carry weight in any future charges.

Both drivers passed alcohol tests. Both also held valid licences. However, the prosecutor has not filed charges yet. Investigators say it is too soon to assign blame.

Autopsy and legal steps ahead

The prosecutor ordered an autopsy for the teenager. The post-mortem will aim to clarify cause and mechanism of death. In addition, toxicology tests will check for substances. Prosecutors will also summon witnesses. Moreover, they will collect technical reports from the vehicles. The office will take time to complete its reconstruction. Therefore, the full account will only appear after experts finish their work.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you witness or get involved in a road incident in Poland call 112 immediately. The police (Policja) and prosecutor (prokuratura) handle criminal probes. In fatal cases the prosecutor orders an autopsy (sekcja zwłok), and experts (biegli) reconstruct crashes. For expats, remember your PESEL matters for local notifications and state services, but the consulate can help if you lack one. Moreover, Poland’s public health fund (NFZ) covers emergency care, while social security (ZUS) handles survivor benefits in some cases. Therefore, notify your insurer and your consulate early. Finally, keep records of police reports and medical documents for any legal or insurance claims.
