Targowa switch replacement will close a tram section in Praga-Północ on Sunday, September 6. Consequently, tram lines will run on temporary routes and some stops will change.

Targowa switch replacement: What to expect

City crews will replace a track switch at Plac Wileński. Therefore the tramway between Aleja “Solidarności” and 11 Listopada stays closed all day. Tram lines 3, 4, 6, 20, 23 and 28 follow detours. Moreover, several tram stops will close or move temporarily. In addition, some buses will alter their stops and timetables.

Who and which routes change

Line 3 will run from Annopol through Rondo Żaba and 11 Listopada to Żerań FSO. Line 4 from Metro Wilanowska and line 23 from Nowe Bemowo will use Targowa, Zamoyskiego and Grochowska to Gocławek. Line 6 will come from Metro Młociny and travel via Ratuszowa and 11 Listopada to Czynszowa. Consequently line 20 will divert through Jagiellońska, Starzyńskiego and Aleja Jana Pawła II. In addition line 28 from Osiedle Górczewska will use Most Gdański and Targowa before reaching Żerań Wschodni.

Transport authorities will open an extra stop on Targowa northbound after 11 Listopada for lines 3, 6 and 28. However the Dw. Wileński 08 stop will remain suspended. Bus 509 will add temporary stops at Ząbkowska and Pl. Hallera as request stops. Moreover buses 169 will run more frequently than usual. Therefore special timetables apply for trams 3, 4, 6, 20, 23 and 28 and buses 169 and 500.

Why this matters for expats and visitors

Praga-Północ links to major city hubs and tourist spots. Consequently delays or detours affect connections to the Old Town and central stations. Tram closures can complicate journeys to government offices or health clinics. For example, ZUS handles social security and NFZ manages public health insurance. In addition you must still validate tickets when you board. Otherwise controllers may issue a mandat, which means a fine.
