Swidermajer fire Otwock damaged a three-storey wooden villa; 23 fire units contained the blaze and found no casualties.
A fire broke out in an abandoned Świdermajer-style villa in Otwock on Wednesday evening. The Swidermajer fire Otwock quickly spread to the roof and second floor of the wooden building.
Swidermajer fire Otwock: what happened
Fire crews received a call at about 18:40. They found a fully developed blaze in a three-storey building. Consequently, they treated the scene as a high-risk wooden-structure fire. The house measured roughly 20 by 10 metres. Moreover, flames concentrated on the second floor and roof. Local firefighters reported the building had a wooden frame covered in plaster. In addition, the structure stood vacant at the time.
Firefighting response and tactics
The fire service deployed 23 units to fight the flames. They included State Fire Service (Państwowa Straż Pożarna) crews and volunteer units (Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna). Firefighters used multiple water streams from outside. They operated at ground level and from three ladders. Meanwhile, teams entered the building to attack the fire from inside. Consequently, crews began searches for possible victims. However, they found no injured persons. By about 20:30, crews declared the fire contained. Afterwards, they moved to demolition, room searches and mop-up work.
Damage, investigation and local context
Firefighters expect main work to finish by midnight. Therefore, teams will continue to monitor the charred structure for hotspots. Authorities will inspect the scene later to determine cause. Moreover, the municipality may assess the building for safety and order further demolition. In addition, abandoned wooden villas like this one pose special hazards. Their timber frames burn quickly. Consequently, they can collapse unpredictably. Historically, the Świdermajer style dates to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It blends wooden construction with ornate details. Many such houses stand around Otwock and the Świder River area. However, they require careful maintenance to remain safe.
