Serious Targówek crash topples delivery van

A serious crash in Targówek left a delivery van on its side and damaged parked cars and a concrete pole. No injuries reported.

Early Friday at about 6:30 a.m., a serious crash in Targówek occurred at the junction of Jórskiego and Łokietka. Consequently, a delivery van collided with a BMW and then hit a concrete power pole and parked cars.

Details of the serious crash in Targówek

The city police say a 49-year-old driver of an Iveco delivery van failed to yield. As a result, he struck a BMW driven by a 33-year-old man. Moreover, the impact pushed both vehicles into a concrete utility pole and two parked cars. Therefore, the delivery van tipped onto its side. However, the scene looked worse than the outcome. Fortunately, nobody needed hospital treatment. In addition, officers checked drivers and found them sober.

Emergency response and immediate aftermath

Two fire brigade units attended the scene and secured the area. Meanwhile, traffic police (Wydział Ruchu Drogowego) handled the investigation on site. Consequently, drivers experienced delays near the intersection during the response. The police issued a 3,000 zł fine to the van driver for failing to yield. Note: a “mandat” means a traffic fine under Polish law. Moreover, the crash damaged a Tesla and a Mercedes that had stood parked on the street.

Why this matters for expats and residents

This junction already saw other dangerous incidents before. Therefore, locals may demand traffic calming or clearer signage. In addition, insurers will assess damage and liability quickly. Consequently, those involved should document the scene and exchange details. If you drive in Poland, remember to carry valid insurance documents and ID. Also, the police report will help with insurance claims and potential civil suits.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat involved in a crash, call the police at the scene and request a written accident report. Keep photographs and contact details for all drivers and witnesses. When authorities issue a “mandat” (a fine), you can usually pay it directly or contest it in court. Also, public healthcare runs via the NFZ (National Health Fund), and social insurance covers come from ZUS (Social Insurance Institution); these services may require a PESEL number (national ID) or proof of insurance. Therefore, carry your passport, European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if applicable, and insurance papers.

Police investigators will file an official report and forward it to insurers where needed. Moreover, the incident may prompt local authorities to review safety at the junction. Finally, drivers and residents should expect follow-up communication from police and insurers.
