September 2026 will bring an unusually large transfer for many Polish retirees. ZUS will pay the fourteenth pension alongside regular monthly pensions, affecting millions.

What the fourteenth pension means for your September pay

The state fixed the gross supplement at 1978.49 zł. However, the payment changes above a 2900 zł gross threshold. Moreover, ZUS (Social Insurance Institution) applies a one-for-one reduction above that limit. Therefore a person with 2000 zł gross pension will receive the full supplement. Consequently, someone with 2500 zł gross pension will also get the full amount. In addition, a 3000 zł gross pension will reduce the extra payment by 100 zł.

How the numbers work for common pensions

For a 2000 zł gross pension the full 1978.49 zł applies. However, taxes and health contributions reduce the cash amount. Moreover, a typical net fourteen payment may be about 1623 zł. Therefore a 2000 zł gross pension normally pays about 1820 zł net. Consequently, the combined September transfer may be around 3443 zł net.

For 2500 zł gross retirement the calculation stays similar. In addition, you keep the full 1978.49 zł gross supplement. However, net estimates change by tax status. Moreover, a sample estimate puts the fourteen payment near 1563 zł net for this band. Therefore the total net inflow will vary between individuals.

At 3000 zł gross retirement you cross the 2900 zł boundary. Consequently, ZUS deducts one złoty of the supplement for each złoty above 2900 zł. Therefore the supplement equals 1978.49 zł minus 100 zł. Moreover, that gives 1878.49 zł gross. However, after health contributions and PIT advances, the cash amount falls. In addition, a rough net figure for the supplement may be about 1484 zł.

Thresholds, phase-out and when it stops

The 2900 zł gross mark matters most in 2026. Moreover, the payment phases down by the overage amount. Therefore at 3500 zł gross a retiree loses 600 zł of the supplement. Consequently the supplement becomes 1378.49 zł gross. In addition, ZUS will not pay anything when the adjusted supplement would fall below 50 zł gross. Therefore after a basic pension of 4828.49 zł gross the extra payment disappears.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat, check whether you have a Polish pension or only foreign benefits. In addition, keep your PESEL number ready for any queries (PESEL is the national ID number). Moreover, ZUS handles pensions (the Social Insurance Institution). In addition, health contributions go to NFZ (National Health Fund). Therefore the final net payment can differ by your tax filings, bilateral treaties, or cross-border pension arrangements.

ZUS will credit eligible accounts automatically. Moreover, you do not need to apply. In addition, standard payment dates fall on 1, 6, 10, 15, 20 and 25 September. However, people on pre-retirement benefits will see payments on 1 October. Therefore many seniors will receive one of the largest ZUS transfers of 2026 in that month.
