Over PLN 263m for Roztocze cycling network
Roztocze cycling network will add 125 km of bike and pedestrian paths, funded largely by the EU, boosting tourism and low-emission travel.
The Lublin regional government and local partners signed contracts to create the Roztocze cycling network, a major investment in active travel. The projects will add more than 125 km of new pedestrian and cycling routes, and planners expect 185,000 annual users.
What was agreed and who pays
The Marshal of Lublin Voivodeship Jarosław Stawiarski and partners signed two project agreements. Moreover, Czesław Lang, an Olympic medalist, attended the ceremony. Consequently, the total budget reaches PLN 263 million. Furthermore, the EU supplies over PLN 187 million. In addition, the Polish State budget contributes more than PLN 10 million.
Roztocze cycling network: scope and timeline
The two linked projects will build over 125 km of new pedestrian and cycle routes. Therefore, the Central Roztocze Cycle Route will expand to exceed 275 km when finished. The work will connect Kraśnik with Siedliska in Lubycza Królewska and many smaller towns. The authorities plan to complete construction by the end of 2028.
Local benefits and infrastructure
Local governments lead delivery via the Roztoczański Związek Powiatowo-Gminny. The partners include towns and counties across the region, such as Józefów, Kraśnik, Tomaszów Lubelski and Zamość county. Consequently, residents will gain safer routes and alternatives to cars. Moreover, the project adds 15 cyclist service points. These will include shelters, racks and repair stations. In addition, planners will install seven electric vehicle chargers for bikes and scooters in key towns. The programme also funds lighting and signage to improve safety.
The urban-focused project costs about PLN 58 million. Nearly PLN 50 million comes from the EU, and the state adds over PLN 3 million. However, the rural project has a larger budget, almost PLN 205 million, with nearly PLN 138 million from EU funds.
Economic and tourism impact
Officials highlight tourism and local services as key returns on investment. Therefore, the scheme should boost accommodation, food and bike services. The region will run promotional campaigns and six bike rallies titled “Rowerowe Roztocze – discover the region on two wheels”. In addition, a dedicated tourist portal will help visitors plan trips and highlight local attractions.
