Red Cross picnic kicks off safe summer in Lublin

Polish Red Cross hosted a family picnic teaching summer safety in Poland at Zalew Zemborzycki, with first aid workshops and integration help for migrants.

Safe holidays start with knowledge. The Polish Red Cross held a family picnic at Zalew Zemborzycki to promote summer safety in Poland. Moreover, organizers combined play with practical training for families and tourists.

What happened at the picnic

The event took place at the Ośrodek Słoneczny Wrotków. Consequently, hundreds of locals and visitors joined games and workshops. In addition, the organisers focused on rules for safe time by the water. Furthermore, children got face painting and braided hair. However, the core of the day remained safety education and first aid practice.

Hands-on first aid and practical tips

Trainers from the Polish Red Cross taught basic rescue steps. Therefore, attendees practised checking breathing, calling for help, and beginning CPR. Moreover, the instructors let kids practise on manikins. Also, families made ID bracelets with parent phone numbers to help if a child gets lost. Consequently, parents praised the practical approach over theory only.

summer safety in Poland: why this matters

Summer months bring more people to lakes and beaches. Thus, accidents and heat-related illnesses increase. In addition, many visitors do not know local rules or signs at bathing sites. Therefore, simple knowledge can prevent emergencies. Furthermore, learning to call emergency services matters. In Poland, dial 112 for any urgent help. Also, ambulance crews answer 999, but 112 covers all services across the EU.

Integration and support for migrants

The picnic included a zone for the project “Wspólnie do niezależności”. Consequently, people with migration experience learned about local support. Moreover, project staff explained how to access services funded by the EU and Polish government. In addition, organisers noted funding comes from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund. Furthermore, the Ministry of Interior partnered with the Red Cross on the local edition.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live or travel in Poland, know this. Carry some ID on you, such as a passport or national ID. Also, register with the National Health Fund (NFZ) if eligible to access public care. NFZ means public health coverage; ZUS handles social contributions and pensions. Besides, PESEL is the national ID number for residents, useful for many services. Finally, learn the emergency number 112 and keep a local SIM for quick calls.

Organisers stressed responsibility and community care. Moreover, they urged families to refresh basic skills before trips. In addition, the event reminded visitors that safe holidays require preparation. Furthermore, training young people can save lives later. Therefore, practical community events provide real benefits beyond simple awareness.

Parents and participants told reporters they valued the practical workshops. Consequently, attendees said they feel better prepared for summer risks. In addition, locals appreciated the integration help for migrants. Finally, the Red Cross called on other cities to host similar events before peak season.
