New Puławy bus station contract signed

Contract signed for Puławy bus station; construction starts soon with modern shelters, PV panels, and extra funding sought from the EU.

Contract signed for the Puławy bus station. The city awarded the work to Kosonóg Budownictwo, and construction should finish early next year.

What the new station will look like

The new transport hub will sit on Wojska Polskiego street. Moreover, the site replaces the old PKS Puławy terminal that closed years ago. The contractor will install a modern shelter, benches, and public toilets. In addition, the project includes LED lighting and rooftop photovoltaic panels. Consequently, the city will store rainwater in underground tanks. Therefore, the place will offer greenery and decorative screens. As a result, users should find the stop more pleasant and resilient to weather changes.

Who will use the new Puławy bus station

All municipal buses run by MZK Puławy will call at the new hub. MZK stands for the municipal transport operator. However, private carriers will also be invited to use it. Today, many intercity minibuses stop at bays on Wojska Polskiego. Meanwhile, buses to Lublin currently stop at the Kaufland car park. Consequently, the city will withdraw permission for those existing roadside bays. Therefore, private firms must agree to shift to the new terminal. Moreover, the city has not yet confirmed if carriers on the busy Puławy-Lublin line will join. We will know more next year.

Cost, timeline and wider strategy

The signed contract sets an eight-month construction deadline. Consequently, technical inspections may push the opening into the first quarter of next year. The contract value reaches 8.5 million PLN. However, that sum exceeds earlier estimates. Therefore, the city council approved a budget amendment and added 760,000 PLN. Moreover, municipal leaders now expect to request roughly double that extra funding next year. As a result, Puławy seeks increased EU support for the scheme. In addition, this terminal forms one part of a broader transport package worth over 24 million PLN. The wider plan includes electric buses, ticket machines, and a transformer station for MZK. Moreover, new stops will serve neighbouring Końskowola.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Poland runs public services differently than you may expect. For example, PESEL denotes your national ID number. ZUS is the social insurance office and NFZ runs public healthcare. A “mandat” means a roadside fine. Therefore, carry ID when you travel and expect ticket machines at new hubs. Also, keep cash and cards ready because some regional carriers still prefer cash fares.

For expats, this station matters practically. Firstly, it centralises departures and arrivals. Secondly, it offers clear shelters and a toilet, which helps when you travel with children or luggage. Moreover, electric buses in the wider project mean quieter rides and lower local emissions. Finally, if you often commute to Lublin or Warsaw, watch for carrier announcements about switched stops.
