New MOPs Approved on S17 near Tomaszów Lubelski

Construction permit allows S17 rest areas Jeziernia East and West near Tomaszów Lubelski, improving safety for drivers heading to Ukraine.

Construction permits have cleared the way for two new S17 rest areas near Tomaszów Lubelski. The Jeziernia East and Jeziernia West service areas will sit on the dual-carriageway bypass that forms part of the S17 express route toward the Ukrainian border.

S17 rest areas: what will they include?

Each site will offer 60 car parking bays, 24 truck spots, and three coach bays. Moreover, authorities will reserve spaces for disabled drivers. In addition, planners will include oversized vehicle bays and spaces for hazardous cargo. Furthermore, the project will deliver sanitary buildings with toilets. Consequently, families will find playgrounds and taps with drinking water. Moreover, designers will place six picnic shelters at each MOP. In addition, they will reserve an area for a small catering outlet in the future. Furthermore, both sites will have space for electric vehicle charging points. Therefore, both private drivers and commercial operators will benefit.

Safety, freight and cross-border importance

The bypass measures 9.6 km. Therefore, it forms part of the S17 link from Lublin to Hrebenne. Consequently, traffic funnels toward the Poland–Ukraine border. Moreover, new stops will reduce driver fatigue and improve road safety. In addition, EU rules require drivers to take regular breaks and tachographs record this. Furthermore, truck drivers will value ramp areas for snow clearing. Therefore, the MOPs will support long-distance freight and coach traffic. Who will build them and how the permit works

Budimex will design and build both MOPs. The contract totals nearly 63.7 million PLN. In addition, the work covers access roads, entry and exit lanes, lighting, and traffic safety devices. The regional voivode issued a ZRID decision, so the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways can hand the site to the contractor and start work. (ZRID means a decision to allow road investment and local land handover.) Moreover, this step moves the project from planning into construction. Therefore, crews can mobilize and begin earthworks.

Network context along S17

Drivers already use MOPs at Wierzchowiska and Bystrzejowice. Moreover, planners aim to operate four pairs of rest areas between Lublin and Hrebenne in the long term. Ostrzyca and Krynice pairs remain in the pipeline. Consequently, the corridor will gain a more consistent safety and service offer. In addition, the upgrades reflect rising freight flows toward Ukraine and regional trade links.
