Nearly 28M PLN Boost for Lublin Cardiology

Nearly 28M PLN funds modernize care at USK No.4, a major Lublin cardiology investment upgrading diagnostics and surgery.

University Clinical Hospital No. 4 in Lublin secured nearly 28 million PLN to expand cardiac care under the national recovery plan. This Lublin cardiology investment bought modern equipment already serving patients.

New equipment and departments

The grant came from the Krajowy Plan Odbudowy (KPO), Poland’s EU-backed recovery plan. Consequently the hospital purchased more than 26 million PLN of medical devices. In addition the funds targeted cardiology, cardiac surgery and interventional radiology. The institution installed new echocardiographs and patient monitoring systems. Moreover it added devices for rhythm diagnostics and intensive cardiac care. The angiography suite for interventional cardiology received an angiokardiograph and intravascular lithotripsy tools. Therefore clinicians can treat coronary disease more effectively. Furthermore the electrophysiology unit got an advanced mapping system for safer ablations.

Lublin cardiology investment: regional impact

USK No. 4 will strengthen its role in eastern Poland. As a result patients face shorter waits for specialist care. Moreover the upgrade reduces the need to travel to Warsaw or Kraków. The hospital now offers ECMO kits and heart-lung bypass gear for complex surgery. Consequently emergency teams can deliver higher-level care locally. The new angiograph in the interventional radiology unit replaces decade-old equipment. Therefore procedures become safer and use less radiation. The upgrade supports faster diagnosis and shorter therapy times.

Why this matters to residents and expats

Modern equipment changes outcomes for heart patients. In addition it raises survival chances in acute events. However access depends on insurance and residency status. If you live and work in Poland, the NFZ (National Health Fund) covers many treatments. EU citizens can use an EHIC for short stays. Non-residents may need private care or to pay upfront. Also note that registration often requires PESEL number (Polish ID number) or ZUS (social security) contributions. Therefore expats should confirm coverage before planned procedures. Emergency services use 112 across Poland, and hospitals treat life-threatening cases immediately.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat, check your health coverage before seeking non-urgent care. Registering for public care often needs a PESEL (national ID) and contributions handled via ZUS (social security). In addition NFZ (National Health Fund) funding determines which procedures are free. Therefore temporary visitors should carry EHIC or buy travel insurance. Finally many specialists accept private patients, so you can pay directly to avoid long waits.
