Modern aviation hangar to boost Chełm training
Chełm hangar will modernize a university airport and boost pilot and technician training by 2027.
Chełm hangar will rise at the Depułtycze Królewskie airfield after the State University signed a contract on April 14. Consequently, the investment promises major upgrades for the institution and the region.
What the project includes
The academy will build a modern aircraft hangar and adjoining office and social spaces. Moreover, contractors will install full technical infrastructure and specialist systems. In addition, they will arrange roads, aprons and lighting for efficient operations. The government funds this project through the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Therefore, execution proceeds under a contract with Aseco Construction Polska. The campus expects to complete work by mid-2027. Consequently, the facility will shorten aircraft prep times and increase training throughput.
Chełm hangar: why it matters for aviation training
The new hangar supports the university’s Aviation Centre directly. Moreover, it will improve maintenance capacity for the campus fleet. In addition, pilots and mechanics will train in better conditions. Therefore, the school can run more sorties and simulator sessions each week. The academy already trains airplane and helicopter pilots, aircraft mechanics, dispatchers and air traffic controllers. Consequently, students will benefit from a full training cycle under one roof, from classroom theory to real flight time.
Regional and national impact
The investment exceeds PLN 11 million. Moreover, the project will create local construction jobs during the build. In addition, the upgraded airport can attract private partnerships and regional aviation services. Therefore, the facility may strengthen Chełm’s economic profile. The rector, Prof. Beata Fałda, calls the hangar a strategic step for the academy. However, the benefits extend beyond the university. Consequently, the wider Lublin Voivodeship can leverage new training capacity for national needs. In addition, the region can respond to growing demand for qualified aviation staff across Poland and abroad.
