Major Warsaw Heat Network Upgrades Planned in August
Veolia announces Warsaw heating network upgrades with planned August outages affecting hundreds of buildings. Read dates, scope and advice for expats.
Veolia Energia Warszawa announced major summer works and scheduled outages as part of Warsaw heating network upgrades. The company warns residents that some buildings will lose central heating and hot water during planned August work.
Scope and schedule of the August works
Veolia will modernize sections of the city’s thermal grid in August. Consequently, works will run at Pustelnicka, Zgrupowania AK “Żmija” and Jagiellońska. The largest shutdown will affect 689 buildings. Moreover, Veolia plans a separate outage for 146 buildings near Pustelnicka 48A. In addition, 67 buildings around Jagiellońska 4 will face a shorter interruption. The Pustelnicka work runs from 10 August 20:00 until 13 August 06:00. However, the big Zgrupowania AK “Żmija” rebuild takes place from 18 August 09:00 until 22 August 06:00. Therefore, the Jagiellońska magistral rebuild begins 24 August 16:00 and ends 26 August 14:00.
Warsaw heating network upgrades: why this matters
Warsaw’s heating network stretches roughly 1,900 kilometres. Veolia manages the system and invests about PLN 100 million annually. Moreover, the company reports a 40 percent drop in network failures in recent years. In addition, Veolia says more than 55 percent of the network now uses pre-insulated pipes. Consequently, these replacements reduce heat loss and improve efficiency. The firm also works on digital controls under Intelligent Network projects. Therefore, nodes and chambers now include remote sensors and telemetry. These upgrades aim to reduce emergency breaks in winter. However, businesses and residents will still face temporary discomfort during the works.
What residents and expats should do
Veolia will notify administrators at least seven days before each outage. Then managers and housing cooperatives must inform tenants. Consequently, expect notices in stairwells or building communication channels. Moreover, Veolia provides a template message for managers to use. In addition, the company posts updates on its public network status page. Therefore, check the site regularly if you depend on hot water or central heating.
Veolia stresses that summer offers the least disruptive window for maintenance. However, the works remain essential to secure winter heating and hot water. Moreover, using summer downtime helps the city avoid larger failures later.
