LOTTO AZS UMCS Lublin finalises roster

LOTTO AZS UMCS Lublin announces two signings, including American forward Catherine Reese. Season opens with Supercup on Sept 19.

LOTTO AZS UMCS Lublin have finalised their roster for the new season with two notable additions. Consequently, the club aims to blend experience with youth ahead of the Supercup and league play.

American experience: Catherine Reese joins

Catherine Reese, a 26-year-old American forward, returns to Poland. Moreover, she offers proven scoring and rebounding ability. She grew up in Texas and starred at Cypress Woods High School. In addition, she played collegiately for the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson. After college, Reese competed in Australia and Belgium. Therefore, she gained EuroCup Women experience with Kangoeroes Mechelen. Consequently, she also won a national title there. Last season she played in the Polish Basket Liga Kobiet for MB Zagłębie Sosnowiec. She averaged 18.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. Moreover, Reese produced several standout performances. For example, she scored 31 points and grabbed 19 rebounds against Ślęza Wrocław. She also notched 26 points and 20 rebounds versus Wisła Kraków. Therefore, the club expects her to anchor the frontline.

Young prospect added to the mix

In addition to Reese, the team signed 18-year-old Dominika Hańczaruk. She stands 186 cm tall and plays as a wing. Last season she saw regular minutes for SMS PZKosz Łomianki in the first league. Moreover, she wore Bogdanka AZS UMCS Lublin colours in the U19 national championships. There she scored 83 points and pulled 90 rebounds in 11 games. Consequently, the club plans to develop her slowly. Therefore, she will provide depth and a homegrown link to the city.

Schedule and stakes for the season

The official season kicks off on 19 September in Wrocław with the Superpuchar Polski. Moreover, the match will pit the reigning champions against 1KS Ślęza Wrocław, the Polish Cup winners. The Orlen Basket Liga kobiet begins on 26 September. LOTTO AZS UMCS Lublin will face Isands JTEC Wichoś Jelenia Góra in the opening round. However, the club faces tougher tests soon after. For instance, they face Ślęza in Wrocław on 10 October. In addition, they will meet Enea AZS Politechnika Poznań and AJP Gorzów in coming weeks. Therefore, those fixtures will define title hopes. Interestingly, no club will leave the league this season. Consequently, the competition should stay intense throughout the campaign.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Visiting fans should expect an organised matchday atmosphere. Tickets often sell online and at club offices. Moreover, public transport works well in Lublin, and drivers accept contactless cards. If you plan a longer stay, register for local services when needed (a PESEL number is the national ID number used for official registrations). In addition, health care for residents uses the NFZ system (public health insurer), while employers deal with ZUS contributions (social security). Therefore, bring ID and plan time for any official registrations.
