Fuel prices drop Friday — new caps announced

Government caps mean fuel prices drop on Friday; 95 at 6.41 zł, 98 at 6.90 zł, diesel at 7.17 zł. Check local pumps.

Fuel prices drop on Friday, giving drivers a short reprieve. The government published new maximum tariffs that stations must show across Poland.

Fuel prices drop: exact caps for Friday

The new official caps set petrol 95 at no more than 6.41 zł per litre. Moreover, premium petrol 98 will cost at most 6.90 zł per litre. Diesel drivers will see a cap of 7.17 zł per litre. In addition, the data show small decreases compared to Thursday. Petrol 95 fell by 0.05 zł. Diesel dropped by 0.09 zł. Therefore, the changes save drivers a few groszy per litre. Consequently, a full tank can cost noticeably less for many motorists.

Why the government lowered costs

The Finance Ministry extended tax reliefs to cushion consumers. In particular, VAT on fuel stays at 8% instead of 23% until at least May 15. Furthermore, authorities reduced the excise tax to support prices. The measures form the “Ceny Paliw Niżej” program. The government says the program offsets volatility on global markets. For example, tensions in the Middle East and transport disruptions pressure oil prices. Therefore, the state intervened to limit local pump price spikes.

Regional variations and practical effects

Remember that these numbers are maximum prices. Stations may sell cheaper. Moreover, real prices will vary by region and operator. Consequently, drivers in cities may pay slightly different sums than drivers in smaller towns. New caps take effect the day after publication. Therefore, you should see updated prices on pylons from Friday. However, market conditions may change day to day. In addition, retailers can change their offers to attract customers.

For practical planning, Friday could be a good time to refuel. A few groszy saved per litre adds up on a full tank. Moreover, if you commute long distances, these savings matter. However, avoid unnecessary trips to chase tiny differences. Use price comparison apps and local petrol maps. They often show real-time offers and loyalty discounts.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are new to Poland, note that tax rules can change quickly. VAT (value added tax) and excise shifts directly affect pump prices. In addition, bureaucratic terms may confuse you: ZUS means social security office, NFZ is the national health fund, PESEL refers to your national ID number, and mandat means a traffic fine. Therefore, carry payment cards or a fuel app. Also, check local loyalty cards and petrol apps for the best deals. Finally, many stations accept contactless payment at the pump, but some remote sites still require pay-in-store.
