Folkowe Strzały at Lublin Open-Air Museum

Folkowe Strzały returns to the Museum of Rural Lublin on April 25, mixing archery, historical reenactment and ham radio demonstrations.

The Museum of Rural Lublin invites visitors to a weekend event called Folkowe Strzały. On Saturday, April 25 the open-air museum will host archery contests, historical costumes and ham radio demonstrations.

Folkowe Strzały: sport and history

Archery has grown as a sport in Poland. Moreover it attracts people who seek calm, focus and precision. Consequently the museum will stage competitive rounds aimed at 3D targets. Therefore competitors will test their skills against lifelike figures. In addition some archers will perform in period dress that echoes times when bows served as everyday tools. However the display will do more than entertain. It will teach visitors about historical weaponry and rural life in eastern Poland. Moreover the costumes add context for foreign visitors who may not know how peasants once lived. In addition guides will explain traditions in simple terms to help non-Poles follow along.

Archery for families and beginners

The organisers design the event for families and curious tourists. Therefore beginners can try safe, supervised shooting sessions. Moreover volunteers will share tips about technique and safety. Consequently parents can watch children learn concentration and patience. However participants should respect safety rules and staff instructions. In addition the museum sits in the Lublin Voivodeship, a region known for its open-air museums and folk festivals. Therefore visitors can combine this visit with a town tour of Lublin. Moreover the city offers cafés and museums nearby.

Ham radio: SP8PLU and global links

At the same time the SP8PLU amateur radio club will set up stations on site. In addition visitors can see radios, hear live contacts, and talk to operators. Moreover ham radio links people across continents, so you might hear voices from far away. Therefore this part of the event shows a different side of rural technology. However radio amateurs also serve public safety during local emergencies. In addition many expats find ham radio an easy way to join local communities.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you plan to attend, remember that Poland uses a national ID called PESEL (a personal identification number) for many registrations. Moreover public services like health care use the NFZ (National Health Fund). In addition social benefits pass through ZUS (Social Insurance Institution). However casual visitors do not need those numbers to enter events. Therefore bring ID for ticket purchases and carry cash for market stalls. Also note that a “mandat” means a fine in Polish, so obey event rules to avoid penalties.

Overall the combination of sport, living history and radio communications makes this weekend unique. Moreover the Museum of Rural Lublin aims to attract families, enthusiasts and tourists. Therefore expect a lively day with demonstrations and learning points. In addition the museum staff will offer guidance in English where possible. However check the museum website or contact them before you go to confirm program details.
