IMGW’s 10-day outlook hints the end of African summer may be brief as another heat dome nears. Prepare for alternating hot spells and storms.

The national meteorological service IMGW released a new 10-day forecast suggesting the end of African summer may be short-lived. Consequently, cooler Atlantic air replaced record highs across Warsaw and many Polish cities, but relief will likely be temporary.

IMGW and foreign analysists show a marked drop in temperatures after the late June heat. Moreover, many western stations recorded peaks above 39°C before the break. For agriculture and water management, the pattern matters. Indeed, anticyclonic circulation often reduces July rainfall. Therefore, farmers face persistent hydrological drought. Moreover, river levels in Mazovia may not recover quickly. As a result, local authorities still report heightened fire risk. In many forests, the dry litter fuels rapid fire spread.

IMGW’s seasonal outlook already suggested a warmer-than-average summer for 2026. Consequently, expect several heat episodes rather than a continuous heat period.
