Therefore, hand washing from the city system can cost more than four times a dishwasher if you run the tap freely.

However, if you heat water with a home gas boiler, the math flips. Gas costs roughly 0.40 zł per kWh when fully billed. In that case, a basin wash costs about 512 zł yearly. Consequently, hand washing in that scenario matches the dishwasher almost exactly. Moreover, if you use an electric boiler, costs fall between those two extremes. Therefore, the energy source and your washing habit decide the outcome.

Practical tips and habits that matter

Small changes cut costs fast. First, fill a basin instead of running the tap. Second, avoid pre-rinsing under hot water before loading a machine. Third, run full dishwasher loads and use eco programs. Consequently, you cut both water and energy waste. Moreover, remember detergents and sponges add to yearly costs.
