Death of Father Stanislaw Grochowski

He was born on 29 January 1932 in Zabiele near Radzyn Podlaski. In addition, he received priestly ordination in Lublin on 22 December 1956. Consequently, he served as vicar in Krzeszów from 1957 to 1959. Moreover, he then worked in Turobin until 1968. In 1968 he moved to Firlej in Lubartów County. Therefore, he served there first as vicar and then as parish priest until 1996.

Service and local legacy

He led the parish of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Firlej for nearly three decades. Moreover, people remember him for pastoral care and daily presence. He earned honorary canon titles in both the Lublin and Zamość chapters. However, he stepped down as parish priest in 1996 and returned as vicar briefly. In addition, he retired officially in 2001. Nevertheless, he remained a resident priest in Firlej until the end of his life.

Community reaction and funeral arrangements

Parishioners posted heartfelt memories on social media. Moreover, many recalled his role in baptisms, first communions, and weddings. Consequently, the parish announced a funeral Mass on Wednesday 22 April at noon. In addition, a rosary will be said at 11:00 the same day. The parish will also hold a funeral Mass on Tuesday 21 April at 18:00. Therefore, his body will be laid to rest in Firlej’s old cemetery after Mass.

Importantly, the family and parish asked mourners to honor his wish. Consequently, they asked for donations to St. Anne’s Hospice in Lubartów. Moreover, they suggested offering Mass intentions instead of flowers.
