Charges for Lublin playroom staff after girl’s injuries

Prosecutors charge two playroom workers after a Lublin playroom accident left an 11-year-old with spinal fractures. Investigation continues.

Two employees face criminal charges after a Lublin playroom accident left an 11-year-old girl seriously hurt. Consequently, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin opened an investigation against two men over the October 25, 2025 incident.

What prosecutors say

Prosecutors accuse 23-year-old Jan Z. and 24-year-old Dawid S. of failing to keep the playroom safe. Moreover, investigators say both men supervised customers and ran safety systems. However, they allegedly did not start the air cushion pump that cushions jumps. Therefore, children used the attraction while it remained under-inflated. As a result, an 11-year-old girl jumped onto the defective cushion and suffered severe injuries. Doctors found multi-level compression fractures of her thoracic and lumbar spine. In addition, medical staff reported organ function impairment and a health disorder lasting over seven days.

Lublin playroom accident: legal charges and penalties

Prosecutors charged the two staff members with exposing a minor to direct danger of death or serious injury. Moreover, they charged them with causing moderate bodily harm. Both counts carry up to five years in prison. In addition, the suspects denied guilt during questioning. They gave detailed statements to the prosecutor, and the office has not released those explanations. The investigation remains open. Prosecutors plan to close it and file an indictment by the end of June 2026.

Why this matters for parents and expats

This case matters beyond Lublin. First, it highlights safety duties that private play venues must follow. Secondly, it shows how quickly accidents can cause life-changing injuries. Therefore, parents should check that play businesses run safety systems before letting children play. Moreover, organisers of birthday parties must ask venues about maintenance records and emergency procedures. Additionally, small businesses often hold public liability insurance. However, you should ask to see proof or written confirmation before paying. Finally, expect local regulators to inspect the site if prosecutors find breaches.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat organising children’s parties, ask the venue about staff training and safety checks. In Poland, healthcare follows the NFZ system (National Health Fund). Consequently, injured residents usually receive emergency care via NFZ. Also, personal ID uses a PESEL number (national ID). Employers deal with ZUS for social security (Social Insurance Institution). Moreover, a “mandat” means a fine for minor offences. Therefore, keep records, photos, and contact details if an accident occurs.
