Cars Block Bus Stop in Lublin; Wheel Clamps Deployed

Cars blocking bus stop on Popiełuszki Street forced buses into the road. Authorities applied wheel clamps and issued fines.

Several cars illegally parked near a bus stop on Popiełuszki Street in Lublin caused delays and safety risks, with cars blocking bus stop and buses forced to stop on the carriageway. Consequently, municipal officers responded and applied wheel clamps to some vehicles.

What happened on Popiełuszki Street

Today, a resident called police after his car showed new damage. However, investigators found no proof that a bus hit that vehicle. Moreover, officers discovered several cars parked within the bus bay and on the nearby sidewalk. Therefore, drivers could not use the designated stop area. As a result, bus drivers told reporters they could not pull up to the curb. Consequently, buses stopped on the road instead. This practice increases danger for passengers and other road users.

cars blocking bus stop: impact on buses and passengers

Bus drivers said they often cannot reach the kerb. In addition, drivers cannot open doors safely when space is limited. Therefore, passengers must board and alight into live traffic. This situation raises clear safety concerns. Moreover, blocked visibility at crossings forces other drivers to slow or swerve. Consequently, traffic flow worsens and delays multiply. Local rules forbid parking along the full length of a bus bay. In addition, the law bans parking within 15 metres of a bus pole or sign. Furthermore, this ban applies to both carriageway and pavement.

Enforcement and city response

The municipal guard acted after repeated complaints. They placed wheel clamps on offending vehicles. Moreover, officers issued fines and ordered removals where needed. Last year, the municipal guard issued 15,066 traffic fines. In addition, they gave about 2,200 verbal warnings. Furthermore, the city wrote 1,234 vehicle removal orders and towed 864 cars. Importantly, the guard also fined drivers for abusing disabled bays. Specifically, they issued 136 fines for occupying disabled parking, totaling 108,800 zł. Therefore, the city shows tougher enforcement.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live in Poland, learn the parking rules and local signage. In Poland a “mandat” means a fine you must pay. Also, know state institutions: ZUS is the social insurance office, and NFZ is the National Health Fund. You will use a PESEL (national ID number) for many bureaucratic steps. Consequently, avoid parking in bus bays, on pavements, or within 15 metres of signs. Moreover, never use disabled bays without the correct permit. If officials clamp or tow your car, follow the municipal guard instructions to recover it, and pay fines promptly.

Officers say many drivers park thoughtlessly. However, sometimes drivers simply fail to complete a parking manoeuvre. Therefore, the city urges drivers to check marks, signs, and bay lines. In addition, public transport operators warn commuters to allow extra time when stops look crowded. Consequently, residents and visitors should expect more enforcement in busy spots.
