A2 motorway: More sections will open soon

A2 motorway expansion near Siedlce advances; more sections will be ready soon, easing travel in eastern Poland.

By late 2025 authorities opened a 10-kilometre stretch of the A2 motorway near Siedlce, linking it to national road 2. more sections will be ready soon as crews finish final works and building inspectors issue permits.

more sections will be ready soon

The Warsaw branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways announced the timetable. Consequently, drivers should expect an April opening for the stretch between Łukowisko and Biała Podlaska. Moreover, the route will include the Łukowisko interchange with DK19. In addition, the Biała Podlaska junction will connect to voivodeship road 811. Contractors already complete finishing jobs along Swory and Biała Podlaska. Therefore, they now install fencing, amphibian protection nets, signage and vegetation.

Which segments and the timeline

The Malinowiec–Łukowisko and Łukowisko–Biała Podlaska tasks form the first nearly 30 kilometres. However, the Swory–Biała Podlaska section already reached completion. Meanwhile, the stretch from Siedlce East towards Malinowiec awaits a usage permit. Consequently, authorities plan to open these adjacent sections together. Furthermore, the full connection should operate by mid-2026. As a result, long-distance traffic across eastern Poland will gain a faster corridor.

Why this matters for residents and expats

The new sections will reduce travel times between Masovian and Lublin regions. Moreover, truck traffic will move off small local roads. Therefore, local villages should see less heavy traffic and fewer safety incidents. In addition, businesses benefit from shorter delivery times. For expats this change also affects daily life. For example, expect altered commuter patterns and new service areas by the motorway. Also, employers may change logistics and shift work start times.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Poland treats road approvals as administrative acts. You may see the Wojewódzki Inspektor Nadzoru Budowlanego handle usage permits. For daily living note that Polish institutions differ from those you may know. ZUS refers to the social insurance institution (ZUS = social security office). NFZ covers public health funding (NFZ = National Health Fund). A mandat means a traffic fine. PESEL denotes a national ID number used in many official procedures.

Local authorities and the GDDKiA now coordinate signs and safety features. Consequently, they will publish formal opening notices when inspectors issue permits. Moreover, residents can expect phased traffic switchover to the new carriageway. Therefore, drivers should follow temporary signs and speed limits near construction zones. Finally, this corridor reinforces Poland’s eastbound motorway network. As a result, it supports trade, tourism and regional mobility.
