Zupnicza Street to be rebuilt with bike lanes
Zupnicza reconstruction starts on 5 October, bringing new carriageway, sidewalks and one-way bike lanes. Expect bus detours and local traffic changes.
The Zupnicza reconstruction starts on Monday, 5 October at 10:00 and will close parts of the street in stages. The developer-led works will reshape the roadway, sidewalks and add bike lanes on Kamionek.
Zupnicza reconstruction: scope and timetable
The first stage will cover the section between Bliska junction and the transformer station at Żupnicza 8. Crews will occupy first one side of the street and then the other. They will initially close half the carriageway at the Bliska junction. Work will then move toward Chodakowska. This phase may last until the end of November.
Traffic and public transport changes
During the works drivers may travel on Żupnicza only toward Chodakowska. Vehicles heading the opposite way must use a detour via Mińska, Grochowska, Lubelska and Bliska. At the Bliska junction, exit from the parking area will allow a left turn into Joselewicza.
Warsaw Public Transport will keep the temporary diversions already in place for Bliska. Buses 102, 123, 173 and 202 will continue on detours. Line 102 toward Metro Stadion Narodowy will run via Chodakowska, Mińska, Grochowska and Zamoyskiego. Lines 123 and 173 toward Dworca Wschodniego will follow Stanisławowska, Mińska, Grochowska and Lubelska. Bus 202 toward Metro Stadion Narodowy will use Mińska, Grochowska and Zamoyskiego.
The stops MIŃSKA 01, CHODAKOWSKA 01 and ŻUPNICZA 01 will remain out of service. Temporary stops BLISKA 55 and MIŃSKA 51 will stay in use. These changes begin on 5 October at 10:00 and remain until further notice.
Who pays and what will change on the street
A private investor, the company Yawa, finances and executes the works. The company must adapt the road layout under rules that require private developers to adjust local streets for their projects. The plan includes new sidewalks on both sides and a fresh roadway surface.
On the south side the contractor will build a short connecting walkway. That path will link near Bliska junction with the pedestrian crossing at the height of Nowińska 4. The zebra crossing itself will be raised. The project will add one-way bike lanes on both sides of the rebuilt stretch. Planners also included areas for extra greenery using small pavement adjustments.
