Young drivers ace county road safety contest
Forty-one students showed mastery of road traffic rules in Puławy, combining tests, first aid and practical safety demos with police support.
Forty-one young contestants proved that road traffic rules pose no mystery at a county-level event in Puławy on April 17. The finalists met at ZS nr 2, the town’s construction school, and they faced a written test plus first aid challenges.
Students who mastered road traffic rules
In the primary schools category, Adam Figiel from Stary Pożóg won first place. Moreover, his teachers praised his steady work and interest in safety on the school’s Facebook page. Second place went to Maksymilian Rybalchenko from Kazimierz Dolny. In addition, Kacper Kozak from Końskowola took bronze. The school highlighted commitment and steady study as keys to success.
Older category and local partners
In the older group, Dominik Bicki from ZS nr 1 in Puławy topped the podium. He studies in a logistics and freight forwarding technical profile. Second place went to Bartłomiej Sala from I LO in Puławy. Third place went to Franciszek Zdyb from the technical school named after M. Skłodowska-Curie. Consequently, the winners each received commemorative diplomas and small gifts. The event partners included the Puławy traffic police unit and the county State Fire Service (PSP). The county head, Teresa Gutowska, accepted honorary patronage. In addition, local media like Dziennik Wschodni supported the event.
Practical safety training and community aims
The organisers designed the contest to promote safe behaviour on roads and to prepare young people for driving responsibilities. Therefore, they stressed correct and courteous conduct in traffic. After the contest, students tested a driving simulator. They also tried alkogoggles that show alcohol’s effects on driving. Moreover, they saw a centrifugal force demonstrator and a reflex tester. They observed one of the fire service vehicles up close. The teachers said the hands-on demos made safety lessons memorable.
The contest shows local investment in road safety education. However, its lessons matter beyond Puławy. Expat drivers benefit from early familiarisation with Polish traffic culture and enforcement. For instance, fines (mandaty) can arrive quickly if you break rules. Moreover, police and firefighters take school outreach seriously because prevention saves lives. The teachers and partners hope the event will shape safer habits among tomorrow’s drivers.
