Weekend Weather: Plan Your Picnic in Poland

Weekend weather looks warm but rainy across Poland. Time your picnic or grill carefully and consider covered options.

Weekend weather turns warmer but wetter across Poland this weekend. However, a rain front will affect most outdoor plans. Therefore read timing tips and regional risks if you plan a picnic or grill.

Midweek window before the rain

Wednesday and Thursday offer the clearest chance to be outdoors. Meteorological models show temperatures of 15-19°C nationwide. Consequently, Warsaw should reach roughly 14-18°C. Moreover, forecasters expect relatively low rain chances on those days. Therefore you should move casual outdoor plans to Wednesday or Thursday if you can. Also bring light layers. In addition expect clouds, so pack a light waterproof just in case.

Friday warmth but approaching front

Friday will feel the warmest this week. Models predict Warsaw near 20-21°C. However, the rain front will start to arrive. Consequently cloud cover will increase and showers may begin by evening. Therefore plan Friday daytime activities early. Furthermore, consider a venue with overhead cover for the evening.

Weekend weather: timing and regions to avoid

Saturday will stay warm and mostly cloudy. Meteorologists forecast 17-21°C in Warsaw. However, models expect about 5 mm of rain during the day. Moreover wind may gust to 30 km/h from WNW. Therefore expect frequent, short showers. In addition western Poland could see thunderstorms and stronger gusts. Consequently avoid outdoor grilling in Lower Silesia, Lubusz and western Greater Poland. Sunday will remain cloudy and breezy with scattered rain. Also the south will see heavier rain. Therefore avoid picnics near Kraków, Rzeszów and Zakopane. Furthermore the coast and Tri-City may get windier sea breezes. As a result choose sheltered spots on the coast.

Practical tips for expats planning a grill

Bring a canopy or use a covered terrace. Also buy disposable tablecloths to speed cleanup after rain. Moreover choose charcoal or gas grills near a roofline, not under trees. Therefore keep a safe distance from walls and wooden structures. In addition check local rules. Local municipalities sometimes ban open fires in parks. Also keep ID handy if authorities check permits. Remember Polish terms like mandat (a fine) and PESEL (your national ID number for residents). Furthermore if you need health help use the NFZ public system (free for insured residents). In case of emergency dial 112.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Many Poles rearrange weekend barbecues on short notice. Therefore always plan a backup indoor venue. Also check local forecasts from TVN Meteo, Interia Pogoda or sharpweather.com. Moreover if you rent a public pavilion check the booking rules with your gmina (municipality). Finally be aware that public healthcare uses NFZ cards for insured people, and police can issue a mandat (fine) for rule breaches.

Forecast improves next week. Monday and Tuesday will stay cloudy but mostly dry at 18-19°C. Then from Wednesday models predict clearer skies and near 22°C. Consequently the third ten-day period of May may bring the first truly warm days. Therefore if your grill is flexible, consider postponing to that window.
