Up to PLN 30k Added to Pension Accounts in June

ZUS will apply June pension indexation on 1 June 2026, boosting recorded pension capital by up to about PLN 30,000 for many workers.

On 1 June 2026 ZUS will increase the value of recorded pension contributions automatically. This June pension indexation will raise virtual retirement capital. It increases the main account by 9.81% and the subaccount by 10.61%.

What the ZUS update means

The operation affects only people who have not yet retired. Moreover, it does not mean a cash transfer. The institution will not send bank payments. Instead, ZUS will update your recorded capital on its books. The change will appear on PUE ZUS only. Consequently, most workers will not receive a letter or a bank notice.

June pension indexation: how much could your account grow

If your main account holds 200,000 PLN and your subaccount 100,000 PLN, the total increase will reach about 30,230 PLN. Calculate: 200,000 times 9.81% gives 19,620 PLN. In addition, 100,000 times 10.61% gives 10,610 PLN. Consequently, the sum rises automatically without action from you. For many mid-career and senior workers that sum equals a large, one-off capital boost. However, lower earners will see smaller increases.

Why it can change your monthly pension

ZUS converts the recorded capital into a monthly pension at retirement. It divides capital by life expectancy tables published by GUS. Therefore, 30,000 PLN extra capital converts into roughly 120 PLN more per month. Moreover, larger increases produce 200 to 400 PLN monthly for many long-career workers. In addition, ZUS pays that higher monthly amount for life after retirement. However, the exact uplift depends on your age and applicable life tables on your application date.

Timing trap for applicants

If you file for retirement before 1 June, ZUS will use pre-indexation balances. Consequently, your monthly pension may remain lower. If you wait until July, ZUS will calculate from the updated balance. Therefore, many near-retirees should consider delaying their applications. However, personal circumstances differ and delays may carry costs.

The subaccount also matters. Subkonto funds can pass to beneficiaries. Subkonto exists since May 2011 for those born after 31 December 1948. In addition, many people never named beneficiaries. You can register beneficiaries in PUE ZUS or at a branch. Consequently, naming someone avoids estate delays if you die before retirement.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: As an expat, you need a PESEL or foreign ID to use PUE ZUS. You can log in with a trusted profile, an e-ID, or supported bank credentials. Therefore, check your account after 1 June and verify both the main account and the subaccount. Moreover, if you lack a PESEL ask ZUS about alternatives. Finally, name subaccount beneficiaries to protect your family and to speed inheritance procedures.

Practical steps are simple. First, log in to PUE ZUS at pue.zus.pl and check balances after 1 June. Second, delay filing for retirement until after June if you plan to retire soon. Third, name beneficiaries for your subaccount in PUE ZUS or at a ZUS branch. Fourth, use the ZUS calculator on PUE to simulate pension amounts. In addition, consult a financial advisor if your situation looks complex.
