Truck Hits Driving School Car on Warsaw’s S8

A Volvo truck hit driving school car on Warsaw’s S8, injuring two. Police investigate and expats should know hospital and insurance steps.

The truck hit driving school car on the S8 expressway in Warsaw on Wednesday, July 15. Consequently, emergency services rushed to the scene and two people went to hospital.

What happened: truck hit driving school car

The crash happened around 13:30 between Łabiszyńska and Marywilska streets. Moreover, the incident took place on the carriageway toward the Grota-Roweckiego Bridge. The driver of a Volvo lorry changed lanes and struck a Suzuki used by a local driving school. Therefore, the teaching car spun off the road and left the carriageway.

In addition, the Suzuki hit an embankment and then collided with a lattice roadside pole. Consequently, both occupants suffered injuries. The instructor suffered a spinal and leg injury. However, the student sustained chest trauma. Both received on-scene care and then hospital treatment.

Police and emergency response

Police from the traffic collision team attended the scene. Moreover, officers documented the crash and managed traffic. Consequently, S8 saw delays during the rescue and clearance work. In addition, witnesses provided statements to help the investigation. Therefore, authorities will determine if the truck driver breached lane discipline or drove negligently.

Practical implications for road safety

Heavy vehicle rules demand caution around teaching cars. Moreover, learner drivers often display unpredictable moves. Consequently, trucks should leave extra room when overtaking or changing lanes. In addition, driving school vehicles usually display an “L” sign. Therefore, other road users should anticipate less confident maneuvers.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you get involved in a crash in Poland, call 112 immediately. Moreover, seek medical help even for minor injuries. In addition, keep the police report for insurance. Foreigners should know Poland uses NFZ (state health care) and ZUS (social security). Therefore, EU citizens should bring a valid EHIC or S1 form for state care. However, many expats rely on private insurance. Consequently, contact your insurer quickly and keep receipts. Also, fines and liability are called a “mandat” when issued on the spot. In addition, Polish IDs use a PESEL number for administration. Therefore, if you do not have PESEL, provide your passport and insurer details to hospitals and police.

Finally, the investigation will show if the truck driver faces fines or more serious charges. Moreover, insurers will use the police report to settle compensation claims. Therefore, those involved should preserve all documentation and photos from the scene.
