From Monday, trams return to Wola on a limited stretch of track. Consequently, passengers will regain direct services, but drivers still cannot drive straight through the junction.

Which lines run and which remain suspended

The city reopened the tracks along Aleja “Solidarności” and Aleja Jana Pawła II in parts. In addition, crews moved work to the other side of the junction. Therefore trams will operate from Kercelak to Femina and from Femina to Stawki. However, the sections from Plac Bankowy to Femina and from Femina to Rondo ONZ remain closed for repairs.

Line 19 returns between Nowe Bemowo and Kino Femina. Moreover, the same tram becomes line 26 at Femina for its onward trip to Metro Młociny. Consequently, riders must note that a single vehicle changes numbers mid-route. In addition, lines 63 and 79 will not run at all during the works. Line 20 crosses the Vistula via Most Gdański, then turns at Femina to reach Słomińskiego and Starzyńskiego streets.

Traffic changes and why drivers still cannot go straight

The most important change for drivers is that nothing changes at the junction center. The city kept the intersection closed as in stage one. All four approaches now force right turns only from two lanes. Moreover, crews set temporary U-turns on all corners. These sit near the church, before Nowolipie, by a grocery, and before Ogrodowa.

Authorities also closed lanes next to the tramway on both carriageways of Aleja “Solidarności”. However lanes between Okopowa and Żelazna remain open beside the tracks. Therefore drivers should choose alternative routes before they reach the junction.

How to avoid delays and the recommended detours

The road authority installed signs with suggested detours for each direction. Drivers from Wola can take Okopowa to Słomińskiego. Alternatively they can use Towarowa to Prosta and Aleje Jerozolimskie. From Żoliborz the city recommends Słomińskiego and the Wisłostrada. From Praga-Północ you can use Wisłostrada to Sanguszki, or reach Stawki via Konwiktorska.

In addition, the city created temporary bus lanes on Aleja Jana Pawła II. Consequently buses, taxis, emergency vehicles, MTON-marked vehicles, and motorcycles may use them. Moreover drivers heading to parking spots beside the avenue may also use these lanes.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Foreign residents should check tram endpoints before boarding because lines 19 and 26 swap numbers at Femina. Moreover buy a valid ZTM ticket and validate it on board, or expect a mandat (fine). In addition note that Polish services like ZUS (social insurance) and NFZ (national health fund) may require a PESEL (national ID number) for registrations. Therefore keep travel time buffers during the first days of changes. Use apps like Jakdojade or Google Maps for live updates.

Finally, the city did not give a firm date for the complete reopening. However crews aim to finish after renewing tracks toward Plac Bankowy. Therefore expect further short-term changes in coming weeks. Consequently check the ZTM site before travel and allow extra time on your commute.
