Tragic Zabki crash: one dead, two critically injured

A Zabki crash on DW631 left one man dead and two critically injured; emergency teams responded and police investigate.

Zabki crash on the regional road DW631 killed one man and left two others in critical condition. Consequently, emergency crews closed the road and launched a full investigation into the collision.

What happened at the scene

Police responded to the crash on Piłsudskiego Street near Szwoleżerów at about 19:40. Moreover, investigators say a Honda used for app-based passenger transport attempted to turn from the right-turn lane. However, the vehicle collided with an Audi that was traveling in the same direction. Therefore, the Audi left the road, struck a lamppost and rolled over violently.

Consequently, the Audi tore apart during the rollover. In addition, flying debris damaged three oncoming vehicles. Moreover, two Toyotas and a Ford suffered secondary damage. However, rescuers focused on the Audi occupants. They found three young men inside. One man fell from the car. In addition, firefighters used hydraulic tools to free a trapped passenger. Paramedics performed resuscitation at the scene. Therefore, crews took all three men to hospital.

Zabki crash: casualties, rescue and investigation

Authorities confirmed that one of the three men died in hospital. Moreover, doctors say two others remain in critical condition. In addition, responders sent five fire units and five ambulances. Furthermore, the rescue team summoned a Medical Air Rescue helicopter. Police closed DW631 in both directions, and delays could last hours. However, investigators continue to collect evidence and witness statements at the scene.

The police said the Honda driver holds Turkish citizenship. Moreover, officers tested him and found no signs of intoxication. However, at this stage they have not yet determined who drove the Audi. Therefore, forensic checks, witness interviews and potential CCTV reviews will follow. Consequently, prosecutors may evaluate whether traffic crimes or negligence occurred.

Local context and why this matters

Ząbki sits on the eastern outskirts of Warsaw, inside Mazovia. Moreover, DW631 links suburban towns and carries heavy commuter traffic. Therefore, collisions on this road affect thousands of daily journeys. In addition, many expats use ride-hailing apps and travel similar routes. Consequently, such crashes highlight safety risks for drivers and passengers alike.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you are an expat involved in a crash in Poland, call emergency services first. Moreover, seek medical attention because the National Health Fund (NFZ) covers emergency care for residents and insured people. However, non-residents should confirm coverage with private insurers. In addition, save the police report; it helps insurance claims and legal steps. Therefore, you may need a PESEL number for some hospital or administrative procedures, and Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) paperwork applies if an employee suffers long-term injury. Finally, keep your embassy informed and contact your insurer about civil liability and accident benefits. Note that a “mandat” means a traffic fine, and police may escalate charges if negligence or impaired driving appears.

Police continue to secure the crash site and to reconstruct the sequence of events. Moreover, local authorities expect a full road reopening only after forensic and cleanup work finishes. Therefore, commuters should plan alternate routes this evening.
