Thousands Head to Warsaw Streets; Drivers Should Expect Delays
Warsaw prepares for large public events and Warsaw street closures this weekend; expect roadblocks, reroutes and public transport changes.
Thousands will take to the streets of Warsaw this weekend, causing noticeable Warsaw street closures and diversions that drivers must expect. Consequently, public transport will run altered routes and many buses may detour for hours.
Areas affected and Warsaw street closures schedule
Saturday starts with a skateboard ride departing Park Świętokrzyski at noon. Moreover, the route will run via Świętokrzyska, Nowy Świat, Aleje Ujazdowskie and Marszałkowska. However, the group will also move through Koszykowa, Raszyńska, Towarowa and Prosta. Therefore, drivers in Śródmieście, Ochota and Wola should plan extra time. The event may last until about 15:00. Consequently, expect short stops and controlled crossings.
Major events and transport impact
Also on Saturday, two public demonstrations will start near Plac Wileński and Plac Centralny. Moreover, participants will march along Targowa, Zamoyskiego and Marszałkowska. In addition, some lines running through central Warsaw will detour. On Sunday, vintage tractors will parade through Ursus, and they will traverse Traktorzystów and Skoroszewska. Therefore, local streets in Ursus will close at specific times for safety. Also on Sunday, the Rowerowy Maj finale will start at PGE Narodowy. Participants will cycle along Aleja Zieleniecka, Zamoyskiego and Wał Miedzeszyński. Consequently, large sections of the eastern bank of the Vistula will host families on bikes, scooters and skates. Finally, a march beginning at Plac Zbawiciela will head toward the Israeli Embassy. Therefore, Nowowiejska and Krzywickiego will see temporary changes as police manage the route.
Advice for drivers, commuters and expats
First, check ZTM updates before you travel. ZTM means Zarząd Transportu Miejskiego, Warsaw’s public transport authority. Moreover, use the JakDojade app for live bus and tram detours. Secondly, leave earlier to avoid missed appointments. However, avoid obstructing designated parade routes. Also, allow taxi drivers extra time and expect surge fares at peak movement. If police redirect traffic, follow instructions immediately. In addition, keep documents like PESEL (national ID number) and ID with you if authorities ask. Remember, a mandat (fine) can apply for illegal parking or blocking emergency lanes. Finally, plan alternatives if you rely on medical services covered by NFZ (National Health Fund) or need to visit ZUS (Social Insurance Institution) offices.
