Retro Fest Brings 1920s Glamour to Chełm

Retro Fest Chełm 2026 transforms Chełm city centre into a 1920s stage with free concerts, parades and vintage markets.

Retro Fest Chełm 2026 opens a three-day time capsule in Chełm from August 7 to 9. Moreover, the festival moves into the city centre and offers free entry for all visitors.

What to expect at the heart of the city

The festival starts on Friday evening at 18:00, and Nicponie will kick off the retro programme. Consequently, a ceremonial parade departs at 19:15 from the CKF Zorza cinema. In addition, the Orchestra from Kino Corso will lead the procession. After the parade, organisers will officially open events on Plac im. Edwarda Łuczkowskiego. Therefore, the orchestra will keep playing until 22:00 and set the tone for the weekend.

Music, cars and vanished trades

Chełm will host bands such as Warszawskie Combo Taneczne and Warszawska Orkiestra Sentymentalna. Moreover, Big Bike Orchestra and the Cementownia Chełm brass band will perform. In addition, outdoor screenings of Stare Kino will play in the ZSGH courtyard on Reformacka Street. Consequently, visitors can browse antique fairs and see demonstrations of dying crafts. Moreover, the parade of vintage cars will parade through the streets. Therefore, you can also book a carriage ride to experience the city in a different way.

Retro Fest Chełm 2026: community and identity

The festival moves from the historical Dyrekcja district to the wider downtown area. Consequently, organisers aim to build a new festival identity for Chełm. In addition, they want to attract both locals and visitors from the region. Therefore, the event promotes heritage through street theatre, historical re-enactments and a public dance. Moreover, a retro costume zone will operate in Vive Profit Kamienica. There, you can rent hats, braces, scarves, and period dresses. Therefore, you do not need to travel with a full wardrobe to participate.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Chełm sits in eastern Poland, in Lublin Voivodeship, and offers easy public transport links. Moreover, events in Poland often respect quiet hours after 22:00 in certain districts, so check local signs. In addition, carry ID because police or organisers may ask for it during large events. For expats, note these Polish terms: ZUS (social security office), NFZ (public health insurer), mandat (fine), and PESEL (national ID number). Therefore, if you need health care during the festival and you have public insurance, the NFZ may cover emergency treatment. However, if you lack insurance, expect to pay privately and keep receipts for reimbursement. Also, pay attention to parking regulations to avoid a mandat. Finally, cash and cards both work, but small vendors sometimes prefer cash.

Local organisers from Chełmski Dom Kultury stress that the festival depends on public involvement. Moreover, they encourage visitors to dress up and join the atmosphere. In addition, the event helps the city showcase cultural heritage while creating tourist interest. Therefore, Retro Fest presents Chełm as a creative custodian of its past and a lively host for contemporary visitors.
