Projected Rise in Polish Pensions by 2029
Government forecasts show average pensions may reach 5,219 zł brutto by 2029. Polish pensions could rise nominally, but real purchasing power depends on inflation.
The government released forecasts showing average pensions could climb significantly over the next three years, and Polish pensions appear likely to cross a symbolic threshold. The projections show the average pension rising from 4,468 zł brutto in 2026 to 5,219 zł brutto in 2029.
Polish pensions: what the numbers mean
These figures come from the Ministry of Finance and national analyses cited in recent media reports. The forecasted averages are 4,468 zł brutto for 2026, 4,707 zł brutto for 2027, 4,963 zł brutto for 2028 and 5,219 zł brutto for 2029. Nominally, that equals a 751 zł brutto monthly increase between 2026 and 2029. The number looks impressive, but it applies to the statistical average.
The government expects the first change already on 1 March 2027. Current projections suggest a possible indexation factor of about 3.96 percent for that annual update. Analysts say that rate would combine an assumed pensioner inflation rate of 3.3 percent and a component tied to real wage growth.
Authorities had previously indicated a smaller figure. In June, the Council of Ministers (Rada Ministrów) officially cited a projected increase of at least 3.48 percent for 2027. Under that scenario, the minimum pension would rise from 1,978.49 zł to 2,047.34 zł brutto, a gain of 68.85 zł. The later 3.96 percent variant would move the lowest pension to about 2,056.84 zł brutto, a difference of 78.35 zł compared with the present 1,978.49 zł.
How indexation translates to individual payments
The mechanism applies as a percentage. Therefore, higher pensions gain a larger nominal boost. For example, with a 3.96 percent rate, a 3,000 zł pension would become 3,118.80 zł (+118.80 zł), 4,000 zł would become 4,158.40 zł (+158.40 zł), and 5,000 zł would become 5,198 zł (+198 zł). The government set one legal parameter already. After no agreement in the Social Dialogue Council (Rada Dialogu Społecznego), the Council of Ministers issued a regulation on 28 July 2026. That regulation kept the wage-based part of the indexation at the statutory minimum of 20 percent of real wage growth in 2026. The regulation published on 29 July 2026 affects how the final number may look.
Forecasts for later years show somewhat lower percentage increases: about 3.72 percent in 2028, 3.42 percent in 2029 and 3.4 percent in 2030. Yet the average pension could still rise in nominal terms and reach roughly 5,219 zł brutto by 2029 under current projections. However, projected nominal increases do not guarantee higher real purchasing power. Rising prices could erode gains.
