Prof. Kluz Hits 500 Robotic Operations

Prof. Tomasz Kluz reached 500 procedures using the da Vinci robot, boosting robotic surgery in Rzeszow and regional care.

Prof. Tomasz Kluz has completed 500 operations using the da Vinci robot, marking a milestone for robotic surgery in Rzeszow. Consequently, the achievement underscores Rzeszów’s emergence as a centre for advanced gynaecological care.

Prof. Kluz: Robot helps surgeon

Prof. Tomasz Kluz leads the Clinic of Gynaecology and Gynaecologic Oncology at the University Clinical Hospital in Rzeszów. Moreover, he stresses that the da Vinci system is a precision tool for surgeons. In addition, the robot gives three dimensional imaging and wristed instruments. Therefore, surgeons can suture and dissect with greater finesse. However, the robot does not replace surgical judgment. Rather, it amplifies human skill and reduces tremor. Consequently, patients face lower risk of adjacent organ damage. Furthermore, the technology benefits obese patients and those with comorbidities.

Operations for cancer and endometriosis

Prof. Kluz performed his first independent robotic case in 2023. Since then, he completed 500 procedures. The work includes hysterectomies and lymph node removal for uterine cancer. Moreover, the team treats deep infiltrating endometriosis. In addition, they perform urogynaecological reconstructions. Therefore, patients get access to minimally invasive options. As a result, recovery times shorten and hospital stays shrink. However, not every case suits robotic approach. The surgeon evaluates each patient individually.

Rzeszów among leaders — robotic surgery in Rzeszow

Rzeszów now ranks among Poland’s leading robotic centres. Moreover, the Podkarpackie Centre for Robotic Surgery did nearly 700 operations in 2025. These included urology, gynaecology and colorectal procedures. Therefore, the centre serves as a training hub for doctors from Poland and abroad. In addition, the hospital issues certificates that recognise operator competence. Consequently, the region builds a reputation for high standards in robotic care.

Teamwork and training

The hospital emphasises teamwork for every robotic case. Surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and scrub technicians all play roles. Moreover, instrument nurses maintain the console workflow. In addition, the operating room staff train to manage robotic equipment safely. Therefore, the certificate to Prof. Kluz reflects team competence, not just individual skill. As a result, the centre can offer more complex procedures with confidence.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: If you live in Poland you access public healthcare via the National Health Fund (NFZ). NFZ covers many cancer and urgent gynaecological procedures, but you may need a referral. Private care also exists and often shortens wait times. Moreover, foreigners should check residency status and PESEL needs for some services (PESEL is Poland’s ID number). In addition, bring your EU health insurance card if applicable. Therefore, consider translation help for hospital visits and sign up for local patient navigators when possible.
