Police get 44 BMW M340i xDrive patrol cars
Poland’s traffic police received 44 BMW M340i xDrive patrol cars as part of a 100-car EU-funded order, boosting traffic enforcement and response.
Poland’s traffic police received 44 marked BMW M340i xDrive patrol cars on August 12 at Warsaw-Babice airport, and this first batch begins a 100-car rollout. Consequently, the vehicles will strengthen road policing nationwide while EU funds cover most of the purchase.
What the BMW M340i xDrive brings to patrols
The BMW M340i xDrive packs a 3.0-litre turbo six, mild-hybrid assist, and 392 horsepower. Moreover, the car sends power to all four wheels through BMW xDrive and an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox. Therefore, it accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. In addition, the cars use sport suspension, adaptive steering, and stronger brakes to match higher performance.
Procurement, funding and extra equipment
The Interior Ministry ordered 100 high-performance patrol cars under a project titled “Pomagamy i chronimy.” Moreover, EU funds under the Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021–2027 programme cover over 44 million zł of the 54.6 million zł package. The contract also includes training, extra kit, and speed measurement tools. In addition, authorities will supply 100 handheld speed guns with image capture and 40 tachimeters with software.
Related upgrades: laser speed guns and training
Simultaneously, police buy 600 LTI 20/20 TruCam II laser speed guns with imaging capability. Consequently, the force plans broad training for hundreds of officers. Therefore, the programme funds driving technique courses for 406 car officers and motorcycle training for 463 riders. Moreover, the aim remains clearer evidence collection and faster incident response.
The new vehicles will serve units across Poland, and deliveries will follow a set schedule. Moreover, police say the cars will improve oversight of speeding, dangerous driving, and road crimes. However, critics may question using high-performance cars for regular patrols. Therefore, officials stress the package includes cameras, tachographs, and officer training to justify costs.
For foreigners, the upgrade matters practically. Consequently, expect more visible enforcement on major roads and faster police response times. In addition, if you drive in Poland, adapt to stricter speed controls and carry proper documents. Moreover, keep contact numbers for your embassy and roadside assistance handy.
Overall, Poland’s traffic police invest in modern vehicles, enforcement tools, and training to raise road safety. Therefore, the programme combines equipment and human capital to reduce accidents and improve evidence collection.
