Piasecki cottage cheese crowned twice

Piasecki cottage cheese won both the consumer award and a jury prize at the National Cheese Festival in Olsztyn, highlighting Polish dairy craft.

The National Cheese Festival in Olsztyn showcased Poland’s best dairy producers this year. Piasecki cottage cheese emerged as a double winner, taking the consumer prize and a professional jury award.

Piasecki cottage cheese wins top consumer and jury honors

The festival marked the XI edition of the Festival of Cheeses and Cottage Cheeses of Polish Dairy. Producers from across Poland presented products to visitors and specialists. The consumer vote decided one of the top awards. Festival-goers tasted entries and selected their favorites. The consumer award and the title of Cottage Cheese King went to the brand Twaróg Piasecki.

What the jury recognized

In a separate competition, an expert panel awarded statuettes from the Rector of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The panel judged in categories called Hit Twarogowy and Hit Serowy. The entire block cottage cheese line from Okręgowa Spółdzielnia Mleczarska w Piaskach earned recognition in the Hit Twarogowy category. The line includes śmietankowy, półtłusty and chudy varieties. Those names translate roughly to creamy, semi-fat and low-fat versions.

Why this matters beyond Poland

For expats, the result signals two things. First, it shows that traditional recipes still win consumer trust. Second, it points to durable regional producers that reach national shelves. Mirosław Domański, president of Okręgowa Spółdzielnia Mleczarska w Piaskach, said the awards confirmed the co‑operative’s path. He stressed that clean labels and traditional methods proved popular. He welcomed the consumer recognition as proof that everyday choices matter most.

Regional and industry context

The festival is organized by the Katedra Mleczarstwa i Zarządzania Jakością Wydziału Nauki o Żywności Uniwersytetu Warmińsko-Mazurskiego w Olsztynie. Universities and trade bodies play a strong role in Poland’s dairy sector. Small and medium cooperatives often compete with larger brands. Winning at a national festival can raise a product’s profile outside its home region. For Piaski, in the Lublin area, this means broader recognition across Poland.

💡 GOOD TO KNOW: Twaróg (cottage cheese) is a staple in Polish diets. Look for block twaróg labeled śmietankowy (creamy), półtłusty (semi‑fat) or chudy (low‑fat). Polish product labels often list fat content and ingredients in Polish. If you live in Poland, keep basic documents handy when registering in shops or services: PESEL (national ID number), ZUS (social insurance fund) and NFZ (public health fund) explain access to social services. For shopping, check local markets, grocery chains and dairy co‑ops for regional brands.
